Title: Fork Clamp Bolts
Post by: Speedy1959 on Sunday, 23 June 2019, 01:41 PM
Hi All,

What are your thoughts on Stainless bolts for the fork clamp bolts?
I am talking decent ones from say "Pro Bolt"..
I ask in case Stainless replacements are not up to the job..
Your thoughts please..

My thoughts would be, no problem, if that's what you want.  Just remember to put some coppercote on them before installation.

The Probolt ones will be fine, had them in mine, no problem. They use A316 Stainless - see their materials guide for exact info https://www.pro-bolt.com/material_guide/

Outside of Probolt, I always preferred A4 to A2 grade, as A4 is to marine standard so will not corrode.

In general Stainless is perfectly adequate, the only areas I used titanium for was those under stress such as caliper mounting bolts.

Probolt or a company called race bolts.
But I mostly use probolt and I seam to be going down the titanium route with most of my replacements but stainless is perfectly good in all cases .
