Title: Another ahem new member here
Post by: Speedy1959 on Friday, 21 June 2019, 02:27 AM
Hi to you all,

I dont know very much about the GSX1400 but its looking like I will be soon taking the plunge by acquiring a Black/Red GSX from a forum member on here called Bob..
My only concern is that I hear the bike was owned by some dodgy Puttz called Speedy1959
Should i go ahead with the deal and risk it?
Or would you recommend I stay well clear of this bike due to its dodgy one time owner??

As some of you may remember i used to own "Sophie" the Black & Red GSX1400 now owned by Bob..
Its looking VERY likely I shall be having Sophie back..
Have to say that I have missed her.. When i sold her I felt very guilty to have let her go...
Technically I know I dont need to redo introductions cos I never really left this forum....
Talking of Forums I can tell you this REALLY is one of the best forums around..

I will let you all know once she is back "Home"

Best wishes,

Simon

So you're buying it back?  Nice.  :boogie:  Hope Bob rockets the price on ya,   that'll learn ya for selling in the first place. :happy1:

So you're going to have 2 bikes now?  What was the other 1 you brought after the K4? Yam MT01?

Hi Col

I owned the MT-01 for all of a month and then very quickly decided it wasn't for me !
I traded it in for a 2008 Honda CB1300 (naked version)..
Long story short... No I wont have 2 bikes cos i cant afford the dosh nor the space..
I am hoping the deal can be done sometime this weekend !
Bob doesn't hang about!! Hes worse than me when it comes to doing things on impulse..
The main attraction for me with Sophie is the fact that I know her backwards.. I was looking through the photos of all the DIY jobs i did on her and I really did pack a lot into the 15 months i owned her..
As I told Bob, when he drove away with her on a trailer I really did feel quite unhappy!

I had a good chat with Bob earlier, and it seems we a quite alike when it comes to impulse buys with bikes...
In all the vehicles I have owned since I was 17 yrs old this is the first time I have bought back a vehicle i have sold..

Its looking like I will meet Bob at a half way point between his address and mine to do the swap.. He lives around 260 miles from me.

Hi KF

To look at the MT-01 it is an amazing looking Brute of a bike..
1700cc of V twin with 150nm of Torque!!
You would think it would be easy to ride with very few gear changes.... Well you would be wrong!
Generally its advised to keep the revs to at least 2000rpm because the power pulses dont do the chain nor the gearbox a lot of good.. It redlines at about 5,000rpm so the sweet spot is between 2,000 and 4,000 revs.. This means that there is far more gear changing than you would imagine..
The tank was 15 litres which would see around 110 miles before panic set in !
When I attended bike meetups, yes it got loads of attention because you rarely saw another one.. But it got me thinking I had the bike for other peoples benefit so they could stare and dream..
A friend of mine owns an early one.. He has had it for about 6 years.. BUT he has 2 other bikes.. A Yamaha XJ1300 and a Yamaha 600cc single off road green lane type thing which he loves.. The point is the MT-01 isnt his only bike.
As an only bike they aren't the most practical bike..
Both the GSX1400 and the CB1300 are MUCH, MUCH easier to ride (and live with)..

Hope this explains things OK

Welcome back to 1400 ownership Simon,  :onya: when you say you will be travelling half way to do the swap, is Bob having your 1300?

So you broke up with Sophie, then realised she was the girl for you. Now, if you win her heart back, this time you should make a commitment and marry her  ;)

Simon - you sat astride Sophie, rode her slowly and then faster with a grin on your face - you have done the right thing  :smile2:

Thank you for all your comments and welcomes.. I really do like this forum..

Got to be up at 5.30 tomorrow morning and away at 6.30 !

So its a very quick visit to the forum this evening..
I will be doing around 260 miles tomorrow.. Practically all Motorway which isn't my preferred type of riding..
I have pre filled the Honda so I can be away at once.. Our local garages dont open till around 8am..
Will post a couple of photos tomorrow when I get back..

Thanks again to you all..
