Title: Instrument covers
Post by: Snapey on Tuesday, 18 June 2019, 11:07 PM
The project bike I bought had slight damage to the instrument cover so I bought these Chinese copies as replacements. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gauges-Case-Speedometer-Tachometer-Shell-Cover-for-Suzuki-GSX-1400-2004-2008-05/263770864267?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

They arrived today and as they're the cheapest I could find I had concerns about quality but they look perfect. At less than one third the price of genuine I don't think you can go wrong buying them.

My praise might change though if the gauges don't fit.

Hi Snapey ,
Let us know how they fit as I am looking to do the same, good to hear at least the finish is OK impossible to tell from the photo.

I fitted the instruments to the new covers today and at $117.18 posted I think it's a good deal. There wasn't a lot wrong with the old ones & they'll paint up OK but I'm selling the bike & things like broken parts don't help the cause.

The protection in the packaging is way over the top so well done to the seller as they arrived in perfect condition. There are differences between the old & new covers that might concern some but they are minor. Things like the lower section of the top cover on OEM is black where it's chrome on the copy & there's no text on the reset panels which might annoy some people. You have to use the rubber bits from the old one too.

About the only drama's I had was the two screws from the original that hold the light cover were too small in the new one. Luckily I have a good range of plastic screws so an easy fix for me.

Photo's showing the protective wrapping, cover unpacked with protective film covering what I hoped would be the SELECT and RESET signs, new & old together ... note the black, the finished product.

Thanks for the info Snapey,
Only my pod is damaged so hopefully it will connect up the original facia ring all in I would say it looks like the smart option,

Thanks' for the write up

Sweet.

I was looking at one of these to keep as a spare.

I need to do a similar write up for the ignition sets that are selling on ebay for the 1400.

I bought one - thought it was a big mistake when I got it as the wiring was different.  But ended up getting it to work in the end by ripping apart the original ignition system/lock and adapting the wiring into the new one.

I just compared OEM prices to this Chinese copy.

OEM top instrument case $183.30, instrument case, inner $71.85, lower instrument cover $195.05, Total $450.20: Chinese copy that contains all of the above and including postage $117.18.

No wonder we buy overseas.
