Title: Finally a GSX 1400
Post by: Donatello on Friday, 07 June 2019, 06:25 PM
Hi, after many years of looking at a GSX 1400 I finally can say I own one. I took it home and first thing I did was take it apart

The bike needs new tires, and when the wheels are off I am going to powdercoat them black (don't hate me).
I send the gauges off to the UK for a shift indicator in the rpm gauge, the front forks need some love so these are going to be painted silver/grey and I will fit Hyperpro springs.
My other wish was an Akrapovic 4-1 system but the only place I could find one has them in back order for the next six weeks. If someone knows a place where I can buy them please let me know! I need them in three weeks!

Welcome!     Bike looks great - understand the thinking behind the Akrapovic, but black wheels on a Blue & White?  Sacrilege!!  :rofl2:

I have enough trouble keeping black wheels clean, would be hopeless with white.

Only one snapped, luckely I have a father who rides old pre-WWII Harley's so he knows a thing or two about snapped bolts. I also just did a turbo build on my MX-5 so I'm no stranger to rust.

The bike has to be ready in three weeks because I'm going to the classic races in Spa (Belgium) for a weekend.

The bike was from the father of a friend who passed away sadly, he loved the oldschool Suzuki bikes and has ridden them his whole life. When he knew he was thermally ill he bought this bike and rode it as much as he could. The bike needs some love but considering its age its in a really good condition, came with an ABM fatbar and B-king mirrors so thats a plus.

Welcome along Donatello. Good bunch here. Nice looking bike you have. Black wheels are a great idea....... then you only have a few more parts and the tank to paint black and it will look stunning.

Welcome Donatello. Nice looking bike & take no notice of the naysayers  :smile2: about the black rims.
Looks good on a B&W & easy to keep clean. I do think some rim tape sets it off though.

That does look good, custom tank paint job too?

 now that sounds like a money making idea.
Red is the current colour.

Nothing wrong with black wheels on a blue & white (and on later models, Suzuki thought so too).

I loved the white wheels on my k2 but they are do much work to keep looking good.
The black wheels on my k5 and k6 are so much easier to keep cleaner .
