Title: Slight Oil Leak
Post by: froudy on Monday, 27 May 2019, 05:13 PM
I recently noticed a slight oil leak on top of the cam cover. On investigating it I found that the rubber seal fitted to the plate that replaces the 2nd air reed valve assembly (1 in the diagram)when doing the PAIR Removal Mod has split.

I checked the Robinsons site for a replacement seal, but you have to purchase the complete reed assy
I tried a tiny spot of sealant on the split in an attempt to seal the leak, but it didn't cure the problem. My next step is to make a gasket from gasket paper and see if that works.

Has anyone else had this happen? If so, what did you do to cure it?

Hi Froudy,
Perhaps it's time to do the pairs mod and blank it off with a plate.

Cheers,
Rick

There shouldn't be any oil in the PAIRs system, it's connected to the exhaust ports inside the head.

I have done the PAIR Mod...That's where the leak is coming from ;)

Good point...But that is where the oil leak is coming from  :confused1:

It's probably worth a look inside as there shouldn't be oil in the valve area .

I'd agree with Rick. Make up some plates to blank it off and then use gasket sealant to re-assemble.

Alternately Steve - others may well have taken the reed valve assemblies out completely and have the reed valves with the rubber gasket kicking around their garage - maybe a "wanted" on here and on the alternate org on FB???

When I fitted the PAIR removal kit, I removed the reed valves. Refitted the reed valve rubber seal to the reed valve substitute plate, and then fitted the top blanking cover.
It was all oil tight until I checked valve clearances a while back. I checked the cam cover seal was fitted properly too.
The oil leak was in the area of the R/H PAIR cover, so I removed it and found the rubber seal had split.
Maybe time to pop the whole cam cover off and recheck it all.

Face it Froudy, the bike had it, it's shagged.  I will take it off your hands for a ton, I'll even collect it myself to save you delivering it.  :)
