Title: Chain Lube
Post by: froudy on Saturday, 20 April 2019, 09:19 PM
It's a bit boring, BUT it does prove a point about chain lubes...

I have to admit I switched to WD40 as chainlube back in 1997 after replacing a Bandit 1200 chain after 30000km. I have had excellent results since at only $5 a tin.
Interesting to note in the test how the WD40 tends to evaporate overnight. I had thought that would happen but I lube the chain right before I ride the bike so it was never an issue.
I am currently trending towards Inox over the WD40 nowadays.

Either or I think, it's very much an individual choice.  I have certainly tried many different brands over the years.  :boogie: However I was given some Motul product as a birthday gift  and must say there's is the best chain lube I've ever used to date. It cleans off easily and if applied as per the instructions stays in place very well and doesn't fling like so many others. I guess as with so many products these days the important thing is to read the instructions and apply it as per those.  :coffeescreen:

I rather like the brush on Motul lube, seems much better than spraying it everywhere...

I use gear oil and like it. Comes away as the choice of the tester (and some bike manufacturers as well). :stir:

I knew someone on here had recommended gear oil, but I couldn't remember who it was.

80w. Had the bottle for many years, now almost empty (used it to generously in the beginning).

Next one may be  80w, will be 5€ for 500 ml.

Thinking about the one Speedy used and liked (Castrol EP 140 (w?)) but it's 20€ a liter. May last a lifetime though.

Actually that gear-oil-drummer is @grog  :worshippy:

And for cleaning manufacturers usually recommend kerosin. Also know as petroleum and lamp oil. Let it evaporate before lubing the chain!

Agreed Grog, no smell.  The EP range does have an odour with it.
