Title: Handlebar Riser Qestions
Post by: Clarence Bodikker on Monday, 15 April 2019, 04:13 PM
Hi,

It looks like I am going to need some handlebar risers, which I was expecting when I bought the bike.  I have a dodgy back and need to be basically sitting upright, similar to the riding position of the V-strom I just traded in.

What are the tallest risers I can install without worrying about having to extend the wiring harness?  The previous owner has installed braided brake and clutch lines which appear to have generous slack in them, but the black electrical cables leading to the handlebars look like they will be the limiting factor.  Is there slack hidden behind the headlight?  Throttle cables are stock.

I have seen on this forum riders who have installed Rox risers, which look REALLY tall but I imagine they require significant mods to be able to install them?

I will put on a set of 20mm risers (which I already own) this weekend, but I don't think that's going to be tall enough for my finicky spine.  Can I get away with 30mm up and 21mm back (these ones in particular https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sw-motech-78-barback-offset-handlebar-risers (https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sw-motech-78-barback-offset-handlebar-risers))

20mm over standard is about the limit without putting strain on the wiring etc.

I had similar back issues to you so took a different aporoach, and replaced the standard OEM risers completely with a set of 53mm risers (standard is about 37mm from memory) swapping the bars to Renthal 758 UltraLows. This gave me a slightly raised height over stock, but significantly the pull back on the bars was a much better angle and enabled me to sit more upright. I also had the seat lowered 15mm and gel pads inserted. I could also have fitted the Renthal Lows if needed to give a slight increase in height.

It worked pretty well for me.

Others have fitted Renthal Medium bars with standard risers to give more height and pull back on the bars. It's a case of what works for you really

Refer to this thread for different Renthal bar options

That set you're looking at Clarence, I know 100% they fit as I've seen them on a 1400.

This is a very good site, lets you put in different parameters & see the result before you buy it.  Put in the 1400, your height, allows you to put in bar risers & pull back & shows you degrees leaning forward.    For me using this, I needed 5cm up & 3cm back & I'm straight.

I'm using OBERON Angled Handlebar Risers with Renthal ultra-low, and it's sutes me superb.
Btw - I'm ~175cm.

I use these on mine from Bike-It.

I fitted flat drag bars and needed to raise them enough so that the switch gears cleared the tank on full lock.

Great I found you, I plan to do the exact thing. Can you instruct me how high I have to go. I would like to have the sweep of the handlebars a tiny little bit downwards....do I have to forget aobut that? Is there too less space?

Well, I guess I go to FB then. I have founded europes largest Arcade-Machine-page on Facebook and killed all the web-forums and you know why? Because of this kind of shit.
If I prefer to stay private I stay private and if you welcome me with lines like that I know again why I stood away from web-forums since over a decade now. Good bye.

Approx. 61,795 bellends in that number though, which is why I'm not in a single 14 group on FB.

Why do you insult them....without even knowing them? THIS is why people leave the web-forums.
