I have only been out on the 14 once since last October and that was to check the brakes after fitting braided line to the newly painted callipers ( thanks Del ) but I have no interest in getting on the bike. When I go in the garage I tinker here and there but no inclination to get out for a ride - I have no idea why. Even considering selling and giving up riding ! :bugga: hopefully when the sun comes back I may get the urge...... :undecided:
PS-all other urges working ok :)
I know the feeling Notty. I commute on my bike all the time so have no inclination to ride for pleasure at all now..Commuting has killed the need to ride.
My Bandit hasn't been touched or ridden since last Summer :furious:
I use my 14 most days to go to work but the bandit Ive owned for 3 years has only clocked 15 miles since last MOT not cause I dont want to ride it mainly due to the carb issues - every time I get around to sorting it out I get another paint job in and its back burner bandit - dont even talk to me about the ZRX1100 had it 6 years done 6 miles (took it to bits and not put back together yet)
Sell the 14 and take up golf!....
Seriously, dont do it.
We all have days when we just cant be bothered, but sometimes a wee blast out on any bike is just what the doctor ordered.
Once you loose the urge it's time to get measured for your last suit :whistling:
I had a big scare on my bike last October and really didn't want to get on any bike over the winter .
I finally had a mate convince me to go to a rally at the end if February and went the weather was really good as it happens.
I really enjoyed the run and since then I've just kept looking forward to the next time I'm out on the bike in any weather .
We all go through stages of can't be arsed but come through it in our own times .
It's worse when you use the bike everyday for commuting or using it for work as it dulls using a bike for fin times in your spare time.
Good luck chaps I'm sure you'll be back to your good old selves soon.

Think we've all been there Geoff, haven't been out on mine since last November, but then I have been rather busy otherwise and the Trumpet has just languished under its cover. At this time of year I must admit that getting all togged up to take the bike out for a ride seems not to appeal, but give it a few more weeks and with the better weather hopefully will come more of a desire. My concern more is the weight, the Explorer is only a few pounds heaver than the 14 was, but has a much higher CoG, and its starting to get a bit heavy for me. Given this, this may be my last year on the Triumph, whether I stop at the end of this year, or get a smaller machine next year, who knows. Wife has already said that she will go out occasionally with me on it, but doesn't really want to do trips or the suchlike. So it all comes down to days out by myself, or, more likely get out with a few mates for a few jousts around the lanes.
Maybe find a few more mates to get out weekends with and see how it goes.
I'm the same - my get up and go - gets up and goes off at a tangent. Sooner or later the nice weather will arrive...
Plus I'm treating myself to a new bike tomorrow. I fancy a little change. 14 is staying though...
@gsxbarmy Dave, pop around in the weekend, we'll go for a run over to Akaroa, goody ride that, that'll get ya going again.
:cruisin:
Followed by the Coromandel loop Col.
Yep for sure, may as well take 2 weekends then, do it proper like . . .
i travel to work in my little car and now the bike in for the mot on next wed , i can at least pick the sunny days to ride to work at long last .but its a hr to work each way so the car does most in the shit weather. :onya:
@Notty Is the bike pristine again yet? I remember the 'orrible pic you put up after sitting over winter. If it's all good again now, subconsciously you may not want to go get it all dirty. If it's not, you may not want to go out with it looking less than 100%. It could be all the gear you have to put on to go riding, sometimes I'm like that, can't be arsed getting all the gear on - cooking in the heat before ya set off etc. Once you get underway, it's all good again though. Put it down to us all getting older.
When the suns out & it's a warm breeze blowing, I'm sure you'll have the urge to get out & go for a bimble somewhere. Especially if there are fellow riders in your locale that would join up with you, for an hour or so ride.

Thanks Col - bike is 95% - perhaps if the weather improves I may get that feeling again :)
@KiwiCol
I did too much tinkering last year and left myself too much to do and it was May before I got out for the first time.
This.winter lost my mojo for tinkering but still get excited about riding thank goodness
A nice ride on a day off rather than the weekend in good weather would be my prescription 👍
Notty - I was in in a similar position a couple of weeks ago. Mrs Brush gave me a bollocking. Told me to get the 14 out. I'm sat in the sun having a cuppa. Ex colleague passes. He stops for a chat. 8 years older than me. Still working. I took Early retirement at 55. He has Leukaemia. Looked dreadful. Talk about bring me to my senses...
Tomorrow 38 years ago I bought my first bike. A dog shit brown Honda CB100n. Tomorrow I'm going back to the same site (different dealer) and buying another new bike. My last. I want something a little lighter. 14 is staying. As missus said "If you think I'm going on the back of that thing, you've got another thing coming". I'll only go on the 1400!!
Soon as the weather picks up you'll feel a little more positive.

Love to Col, lovely bit of NZ to drive around, but may take me a few days to "pop round" mind :whistling:

What new bike?
Some one said take up golf, thats a great option. Love my golf but always love my riding. I ride whenever i can, i play golf whenever i can. They both fit together. I still have mates i rode with 45 yrs ago, they still ride. To me, i just cant stop, we obviously have better weather. Summer is a problem, too hot. Just sitting in shed , a few beers, adjusting, looking, polishing, Give it a go Notty. Shed therapy is brilliant, even if you need to go for another 6 pack.
Had a friend who owned race cars. The cars won 3 NZ titles over the time he owned them. He never drove them, his younger brother did.
Those cars were state of the art and were lovingly cleaned, maintained and polished every week of the season.
Maybe you just need to find someone to ride it for you Notty !!

That's such a shame. I've been resisting the urge to commute on the GSX14. All my mates at work are hassling me to bring it in because they haven't seen it yet but I always take the scooter to work in the morning. The GSX14 is too much fun for pleasure riding.
This was my ride last Sunday: https://goo.gl/maps/SDb13iZtpgp
Weather was gorgeous. Sunny but crisp in the hills. And the roads were almost completely dry. Heaven!
There's an advert for a betting company which ends with "when the fun stops, stop".
Good advice really. There's no point forcing yourself out on the bike when you don't want to be there. But sometimes your mojo can come back just as suddenly as it left. It just happens.
Well it was a sunny day and I decided to get the bike out - first time since October. 220 miles of country roads in glorious sunshine. Ahhhh - the excitement is back!
@Notty - get out on a sunny day, no set route, just ride a few country roads for a couple of hours. If you get your mojo back then, you are sorted, if not, then maybe you are ready to call time. Shame if you are, but eventually we all will have to.
Well done Barmy, urge back.
Notty if I ever have a few weeks away form the bike, for whatever reason, and go for a weekend ride (even if I don't feel super motivated) I QUICKLY get back into the LOVE for it...
Seriously is the cheapest form of therapy there is, and I prescribe some for you ! :)
Personally I've always believed golf courses are waste of land that could be used as a rifle range; but if you MUST golf then take grog's advice. :)
Vlad, golf course is sacred ground, watch out you dont offend me. :) Motivation would come easy getting out of Land Rover to bike. :rofl2:

What new bike?
Suzuki SV650. Gen 3. Blue and white tho. Well blue frame/wheels and a white tank.
Love it. 100 times lighter than the 14. Missus point blank refuses to go on it. Just put a can on. Tail tidy. Rad guard. Bobbins. Crash posts. Been in bits two days.
38 years to the day I bought my first (new) bike. SV is new too.
F#@k knows what I've done. My reply has boxed itself. One day I'll get the hang of posting on forums... :coffeescreen:
ADMIN: Fixed it for you Brian - you had somehow deleted the "]" at the end of the last quote. No biggie - All good now :onya:
Got he urge back !! all I need now is the giant pack of Viagra !! :) did 150 miles early this morning around the Brecon Beacons before the nutters were out :)
thanks for all the support :)
Hurrah! Nice morning for being out on the bike too Geoff, I was out pacing the back lanes as well - well away from the mad rush of nutters!
I went to my local yesterday 'Seaways' near Fridaythorpe. Felt great to be out again after the winter layoff.
Got a nice little toy for the proper back lanes now too.
