Title: Regulator
Post by: Ktmjunkie on Monday, 08 April 2019, 07:51 PM
Hi all not been on here for ages, yesterday I had another stator failure, well the bike has done over 100,000 miles now. Ordered a new one, but this time I have ordered the regulator too as I thought I would grange them both. Question is, I'm fine with replacing the stator (done a few now ) has anyone replaced their regulator ? If so can you do it by just removing side panels or is it a bastard to get to.

It's always a good idea to replace the reg/rec when you suffer a generator failure as it is usually the cause of the generator frying itself.
The reg/rec is from memory situated on the plastic undertray down near the swing arm pivot point...

Hiya buddy good to see you back
The reg/rec is attached to the front of the battery box which is part of the mudguard assembly.
You should be able to get it from the left handside with the side panel off (looks very fiddly tho)
2 bolts hold in the reg/rec
If you can't get if from the side youll need to remove the seat,
grabrail(4 bolts),
rear plastics (2 screws and 4 self-locking poppers)and the
mudguard (4 bolts )
Good luck

I took mine off to test when I had running problems, it's fiddly but can be done from the side/under the bike.

Well spent the day on the bike, new stator fitted, new regulator fitted, new oil filter and oil change. Bike now starts and is charging ok. That regulator is a twat of a job.
