Title: New Bikes Trashed
Post by: grog on Wednesday, 27 March 2019, 07:39 PM
After reading Newtons probs getting home, was thinking about 2 stories of brand new bikes. Both stories mid 80s in Brisbane. First was a bloke bought brand new T140 Bonnie, rode it 10ks to Northgate. He tried to beat train, got thru boomgates but slipped on tracks. He rolled free but bike run over by train. end of that one. Next was impressive. Fraser Motorcycles were on main road at Breakfast Creek. Tiny little park area beside 2 lane road. Bloke traded his Honda 900 on a Hailwood 1000 Ducati. Honda has excellent steering lock, not so Ducati with clip ons. His first ride, saw a break in lh lane, tried to turn into it, not enough lock, into rh lane. Written off in 10 metres they said. Thats the best i know. You lot must have some similar stoties.

A guy I met a couple of times, had a chat and a drink with, has the honour of being the only guy I've ever known to crash an NR750.

Not a bike but a car story - brand new Ferrari Mondial - entire exhaust system fell off as new owner exited driveway of the dealer....

I think it was like $20,000 damage to car (not just the exhaust) as a result - back then in the mid 80's ! A big number anyway.

Another car one, quite recently.

New Audi R8 loaded onto a car carrier.
Arse end dragged the bitumen as it went up the ramp.
It dragged the carbon fibre rear undertray / defuser on the road.

The brand new genuine replacement part, supplied and fitted, cost the same as I just paid for my Hilux.

I used to be a courier back in the 90's and i had for two weeks a brand new Yamaha XJ900 j. Returning to base I was approaching a roundabout, i  signalled left  turned in and unbeknown to me a kindly bus driver left a big puddle of diesel on the exit and down I went and I remember watching my bike sliding across the road in a shower of sparks , then hit the opposite kerb, flip up ,tumble and disintegrate. To say I was gutted was an understatement. I couldn't claim because I couldn't prove which bus company was to blame. I couldn't claim on my own as it would have been too costly. All I got out of it was a bruised chest and leathers that stank of diesel.

Having everything brand new is a great feeling except for new tyres, a real bummer.
