Ok chaps, I feel I'd be more comfortable if my bars were a bit higher and further back, so I'd like to know who has bar risers fitted & how high / far back can you go without impinging on any cable lengths.
This is the one I'm looking at
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SW-Motech-Up-Back-Barback-Handlebar-Risers-Silver-for-22mm-Bars/201606514054?epid=648092260&hash=item
but she's a bit pricey for us - $180 landed. I've seen these fitted to another 14 & know they work fine. The ad says it raises them 31mm & back 22mm, so this distance is ok for cables. Open to suggestions / options. Thx
I've never changed the risers, it stands to reason you can, but there are hundreds and hundreds of different handle bar options that will give the same results.
I'm running Renthal 789's, they won't give you the height you want but the extra width shows that all the stock stuff has more reach than needed. Even sticking Renthals on Busa's most stuff reaches with a little rerouting.
Motech stuff isn't cheap, but is good quality. I'm running Vario Barbacks on my Triumph
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SW-Motech-Handlebar-Vario-Barback-Up-Back-Riser-to-50-60mm/192778252964?hash=item2ce27ab2a4:m:mwZMigiosV8xpmb-Au3DExQ
Which give a wider range of adjustment.
You might also look at the Risers from Oberon Performance http://www.oberon-performance.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?SS=Risers&ACTION.x=0&ACTION.y=0&page=search&PR=-1&TB=A also from Rox https://roxspeedfx.com/search?q=Risers both of these are as good quality as Motech.
Price-wise though Colin, Risers are not cheap - unless you can find someone selling on a set that you want.
Col, i have some , not sure but i think 30mm. Were on when i got it. I found them horrible, just heaps more wind pressure. Not sure ill sell them as one day might fit wider, flatter and use them. Diavel has the wide, flat type and i like them.
Bars and risers are very personal thing depending on this and that.
I like my Renthal "789". I tried it with 25 mm risers, but I didn't like them.
"789" without risers is better for me, but it's a personal thing.
Are these the ones Col?

If they are, they're only $86 nzd. And shipping is only $10
Ive got a set of these there brilliant quality and a very good price !

@shanered6 Do you have a link for this as putting the item number does seam to work .
There you go
@seth not sure why it didn't work first time ?
Thanks buddy :onya:
Thanks for the input guys. I'll have a look at the Renthal chart again & see the difference between std & some 789's. I brought & fitted some new renthal bars for the black after the 'over the edge' incident, but think I got 754 or something.
If 789 is higher & come further back, then that could be an option.
@Taniwha, That set in the link is only a riser, I'm after 'up & back' thx though.
@shanered6 , yes I've seen this style mount & wondered if it fitted ok. They're less expensive so may also give these a go n see.
@gsxbarmy I like the look of these & like the additional piece you can add in to increase distance. Just wondering if 50mm - 60mm is too far for the cables to go? For me they come up as $90usd but supposed to include shipping - generally that only applies to the USA buyers, not overseas, wouldn't know unless I go ahead n purchase & see what happens at checkout.
time for a bit more research on my part, thanks guys. :onya:
@shanered6 , could you please have a measure (or best estimate) of the length between centres of the old position & the new? The dims in the display pic doesn't give the distance raised, just overall length. (9.4cm) my workings say it's probably around 64mm? That right? No problem with the cables with that distance? Cheers

Col i will measure them centre to centre for you tomorrow .... as for the length i have very wide bars and i did have to release some spare loom from the head light for the switch gear , but i think narrower high bars should be fine .
these are really good as you can move them forward or backward as well making getting the right posision easy .
@KiwiCol the risers are just over 2" centre to centre so they give a fairly high lift !
Thanks Shanered6, that's a good distance alright. Think I'll give these a try first & see how it goes.
I was on the Renthal website yesterday, man what a PIA trying to get the info you're after. I gave up after 3 tries. I wanted to compare the std bars with a high one, nope not happening. :frustrated: The thing just kept going through 3-4 steps & ending up back at the start. :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
New risers it is then.

@KiwiCol See this thread - the info was already on here http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=290.0

Yes I'd seen that thanks Dave, I remember when it was posted up & looked at it a couple of days ago, however, I wanted to see the overlay of the high bars against the std ones, not just read numbers. For me, seeing is often better than me having to visualise.
Never was any good at that. Can't imagine what this room will be like with this wall out & a bar here & a new door here . . . just show me a picture, I'll get it then.
Well, the risers arrived today, Shanered6's type. So out to the shed & have a crack at fitting them. Just too tight on the front brake hose, can't get them fitted correctly. Loom & clutch hose seem fine, just need about 40mm more on the brake hose.
I can't use them unless I get a new front brake hose, n that's getting a bit steep for a "try & see if any better". Might see if I can make up a bracket to raise the brake hose union up a bit.
Shanered6, have you got std brake hoses on yours? or are they aftermarket braided jobbies?
Well, in the daylight of a Saturday morning, I managed to install the risers to a position that may suit, first test ride was ok. I got around the short brake hose by unmounting the bit where it splits into 2 lines, the union? This let the hose come up a bit further, now the risers are on there is still slack in the hoses, not a lot, but still some.
It doesn't bind or tighten up anywhere either, so a solution for the moment to see if I like the new position of the bars, if I do, I'll look at getting some new braided hoses made a wee bit longer than std. I was looking on Ebay last night & I'm not changing them unless I have to.
Sun is out on a Saturday afternoon, jobs done, is that a beer gong I hear calling? must go check . . .
You can try this when you are thinking about installing risers or different steering bar.
Use that vehicle customization.

Thanks for putting that up T24. I do use it to compare myself on other models, see if I fit etc. Very useful link.
