So had a pretty good day riding out with a couple mates having a blast through some twisty roads and my mate rides his sv650 pretty hard through the bends so I was pushing my limits though I'm running Pilot road 4 tires so it grips pretty damn well. Anyway long story short was literally riding down my street on my own and just before my house is a right hand bend. I was behind a van which was just passing a parked car when another car came hurtling round the corner so van had to stop. I stopped fine behind it but then it started to reverse. For some reason I panicked and the horn seemed like finding a needle in a hay stack and before I knew it he'd hit me. Bike went over luckily I wasn't trapped underneath it.
Always sad seeing your bike on it's side especially something as nice as the GSX 1400. Luckily as far as I can tell no major damage but clutch lever snapped, front left indicator bent, left side engine casing scratched (previous owner painted it black) front mudguard cracked and left end can scratched too. Luckily bloke seems decent enough got his details and he agreed to pay the cost of damage. Trouble is new mudguard is £187 and engine casing is £204 from Robinson's Foundry. Managed to get a really good condition second hand mudguard of Ebay for 80 quid but so far no engine casings. Don't really wanna make him pay a shit load of money knowing my luck he'd refuse and would have to mess around with insurance although it was a work van so doubt his boss would be too impressed. He only lives down the road though seen the van multiple times parked up by his house and even when out and about.
Just so ironic, go riding bike taking corners quickly and pushing the limits and then get knocked off whilst stationary
How badly is the casing scratched? Could it be polished out? If so, maybe take that route, and then have a word with
@seth, who knows a man who can re powder coat it for a reasonable sum
Far too deep to be polished out sadly. Wondering if I used something like Aluminium enforced epoxy putty to fill in the scratches then see how much it'll cost for somewhere like KAS racepaint to paint it again maybe? At least it didn't crack/smash else would have no choice but to get new engine casing. Annoyingly I have to get bike down narrow ally way into back garden though narrowest part is the door frame. Hopefully gonna get thinner door frame put in then I can get engine protection and it'll still fit down the ally lol.
Thats a bit unlucky alright. Pleased you are ok.
I had a ute back into me (in the car) At traffic lights once. People are strange.
Glad you're OK.
You have pm
@mikesaa309 What casing do you need I have a spare points casing but not a generator one .
I can get the generator casing repaired and powder coated for you if needed just give me a shout and we can arrange it .
I also have spare leavers if you haven't got a new one yet .
I have original set of indicators spare mate and mirrors and a rear light cluster complete I've got leavers as well but I think Seth has said he has them for you
Thanks for the offer Seth it's the generator cover sadly. I've ordered a new clutch of Wemoto some cheap shit that I've already replaced as I caught the original one on the wall of the ally way. Obviously the ones from Wemoto are cheap crap because it didn't snap at the break away point but instead snapped by where it attaches to the handle bar so don't even have a short lever. Sadly binned the old one which I could have used as there was still enough lever to operate clutch.
Also thanks MRG with the indicators but I put CBF/CBR 125 indicators on it lol. When I brought it, it had crap indicators especially on the rear could hardly see them and the CBF indicators looked good on my old bandit 600 so figured I'd stick them on the GSX lol. Can get a set of four of eBay for £18 albeit Chinese clones which are what I put on so just brought them. Here's some pics of what it looks like with them on if anyone is interested: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tS58qfLxq8nRGezMA
Ok buddy That's fine
If your not getting your cover repaired I'd still like it as I can have it fixed and keep as a spare incase anyone needs one in a hurry .
It's such a mess :frustrated: I took it up to e a motorcycle garage that's like a minute walk away so was able to push it up there albeit with binding front break. They're qualified to do insurance assessments so had a look at the bike and turns out handle bar is bent, front wheel was on the piss but was just forks twisted so he sorted that, front right brake disc warped as well as all the cosmetic damage I mentioned in original post. Was 2,300 odd quid in damages though this included genuine parts and cost of garage fitting it. Obviously no way guy could afford to pay that or not willing to so after some consideration I've decided to settle for £400 which will cover the cost to get brake discs, handle bars and clutch lever which is all that is needed to make it road worthy.
I'll do the repairs myself only thing I'm not looking forward to doing is handle bars as just such a tedious job but might look into getting rentals or something (anyone got any suggestions?). I'll just live with the cosmetic damage end can was already scratched anyway thought there's scratches on clock cover and mirror also and obviously bar end. I know it's a bit stupid settling for less than the damage total but I really can't be asked to mess around for possibly days with insurance having them send someone out to look at it maybe and/or take it away for assessment then knowing my luck the guy will probably claim I went into the back of him and the only witness is his work colleague In another van behind me who'll probably back him up over me so either way I lose out somehow either take ages getting it back on the road or lose out on money. Plus bike get's a write off making it worth less if I come to sell it at any point which I doubt.
