Title: Tank bag
Post by: Siggy79 on Monday, 13 February 2017, 04:17 AM
Evening all,

Just starting to plan a lands end to john o groats trip at Easter in aid of a local cancer support hospice, can any recommend a decent tank bag, like the look of the clip on type, anyone got any experience of them?

Don't really want to take panniers.

Siggy

Hey Siggy.
I use a Givi tank bag with the tanklock fitting, Have found it to be excellent.  Beware the steering head strap when undone sits nicely on the headers. Photo also showing with rain cover on.

Looks good, does the bag touch the tank at all? Trying to avoid scratches

The givi tanklock system is the best I've seen.  But a tankbag would hide my pretty red fuel cap bolts... can't have that !

I do have a 'magnetic' tankbag in the cupboard but at 200kph (you know, in theory) it can't hang on and there is a big opportunity for scratches,  It does have a strap which wraps around the steering head to stop it sliding (too far) back.. but that's a half-arsed solution for a manufactured problem.

Best to have a system that doesn't introduce the problem in the first instance !

I now use a GIVI tanklock system as you can use different size bags depending on journey type all on one ring and they stand off the tank. Givi don't make a ring clamp to fit the 1400 but after trial and error of the entire stock held by BYKEBITZ of Yatley (fab guys), found the BF20 (for a Honda) will fit with a little fettling.
You will need different bolts (M5 20 & 30mm) as those in the kit won't fit. Can provide detailed advice if required.

I use the SW-Motech EVO tank lock system - similar to Givi, but a lot better IMO choice of different size (expandable) bags, choice of electrified or not (for charging phones etc), don't touch the tank and easily attached /removed (plus you can fit an optional locking system to it). I have 2 different sized bags, one fitting to suit needs.

A bit late for a reply but my K8 came with Bagster cover and bag. Heaps of room and when bag not in use the tank cover is great protection

I've just got a bagster tank cover.

Highly recommend. Damage free.
Loads of different sizes of banks to fit it as well.
I just have a day bag usually but if I go away, I use a mates touring bag and it clips straight on and off I go.

Oxford Sports.

Done a LOT of miles, highways and twistys. Normal features, unzips to expand up larger, map pocket, waterproof cover. Has a strap to go around the steering head but I never use it. Stays put even at Hayabusa speeds and acceleration. Budget option that works.

I'm a bit fussy when I use my Busa.
I always keep the magnets folded away when I put it down,
Normally put it on the seat not the ground when fuelling up,
I'm in the habit of running my hand under it before I drop it back on.
Busa tank is still fine after 10 years.

14's tank looks like its been attacked with a hammer.
I just drop it on and go.

One more reason I love my scabby old 14....  :onya:

B-King tank has huge plastic side pods and a key and switches in a chrome
centre panel like some lame Harley. Can't even use my favourite bag on the
dumb arse bike... LOL.

Any more info required for this or is it just longer bolts required and a bit of cutting off the edges... For the BF20?

Thanks

Does anyone in Australia use SW-Motech tank bags and if so where did you purchase them from please?

Maybe a stupid question......

But can you see the speedometer etc when a tankbag is installed?

Regards. Jacob

After losing another set of sunglasses and readers out of my jacket pocket yesterday I
got around to fitting the Givi Tank Bag. The correct part number for the adapter ring is BF10

See photo.

Perfect fit, no more lost glasses 🤞🤞🤞😩
