I'm finally getting around to working on bikes instead of a garage to house them.
Bloody nice Snapey. So clean, dont spill any oil. Makes my 69 year old shed look filthy, it is.

There's a turret mill going where the Honda sits so it won't be that clean for long.

Shed envy :P
That sir is one she'd of luxury what a place take my hat off to you sir wow :notworthy:
I managed to get half of the turret mill in yesterday & the top bit hopefully goes on today. I say hopefully because I don't know if my hoist will get the height required.
That looks exactly like one we've got at work. The top bit will be bloody heavy & unless you've got 10' stud in there I don't think your hoist will lift up far enough.
a possible option for getting it into place could be, knock a hole in the ceiling & put a temporary hoist affixed to one of the roof frames, hoist it up then wheel the base back into position & lower the top down.
Good luck Pete.
Good luck with it Pete, sounds like it could be a challenge, and a bloody heavy one at that.
I'm happy to say that Old Faithful, my modified 2 ton Ebay hoist came through again. I don't know what the head weighs but my 300kg scales are too light so I'd say maybe 320kg. The base is 1300mm high so the hook needed to reach 2500mm high to do the job. Luckily it did & after a few anxious moments the head is in place. I just need to sort the wiring & find a better place for the DRO & the milling begins.
What do you make Snapey?

Just about whatever I want now Grog.
I've been working under my house since 1980 doing general engineering work and never had a decent mill because of limited height. With the new garage & plenty of height I decided it was time I bought myself a present.
The mill has done very little work & came with two cabinets full of new cutters & arbors. Spanish made with power feeds and DRO on all three axis for a total of $4000 I couldn't pass up.
It probably won't get used much as I'll keep the mess in the workshop but it's there if I need it.
I like it snapey.
Can't say I've touched a Mill or Lathe since my apprenticeship days of the 80's. Went from blue collar workshop floor to white coat air-conditioned room as fast as possible (tradesman to technician).
Great to hear it all went well Pete :onya:
When I get back I have a job for you Pete, a tool post holder for my lathe, my mill/drill is too little small to make one.

In one of the cabinets Jeff there were a few new toolpost bits for Hercus & South Bend lathes if yours is that small. They're about 80mm square with 9 screws.
If you need reamers they came in the hand, machine & taper types or drills like morse taper, counterbore & straight twist drills. Tell me what you need & it's yours if it's there.
While I've got your attention ... The manual has wiring diagrams for both 220 & 440 volts. Is that possible the mill can be set for both? See pics although they're not clear.
440Volt. You should not have to do anything to links in motors, only important thing is up/down direction is right or you could strip gears as over travel limits will not work. You will need another 3 phase outlet. Will not run on 240 Volt too technical to explain on here ;)
Pete the 80mm tool post sounds good from memory the centre hole was about 20mm stepped into a 14mm bolt thread.
Thanks Jeff ... just thought I'd ask. Looks like I'll be running some 3 phase cable in the next few days after I figure out which one of the five wires in the cable misses out on a terminal in the 4 pin plug.
The tool posts are 65mm square & 50mm high with a 15mm hole up the guts.
That post will do fine, will probably need adjusted in centre anyway.
If you are using that orange circular cable in pic you won't need the neutral (black).

What I'll do Jeff is put anything aside I think you could use on a small lathe.
Black is neutral eh! Sounds good to me.
