Title: Believe or Not
Post by: grog on Thursday, 07 March 2019, 07:16 PM
Had a AMG C class Mercedes 2014 in for service today. LH Headlight out. Xenon type. We sourced a globe, $180 retail, no probs, we can fix. Narva brand globe. 2 hrs and 4 mechanics later, just wont fit in. Narva have made locating clips the opposite of what they should be, great quality control. Have sourced another brand to try tomorrow, nearly $400, hope its ok.  Rang Mercedes for what they use. Answer was they dont fit globes to these cars, just too difficult, recommend a whole new unit, thats how they do it. Cost for headlight is $5000 Aus dollars.

I know someone who put a new Audi R8 on a car carrier truck.
Loaded it wrong and it dragged the factory carbon fibre rear undertray along the bitumen as it loaded.

A replacement part was a similar price that I paid for my Hilux.

Lol too difficult so spend 10 times the amount on a bolt on off unit :happy1:
Although if its that difficult it would probably work out cheaper with the whole unit
The labour itself from them would be $5000 :whatever:

At the last Warrant of Fitness inspection l was told l would need to replace a rear shock that was starting to leak before the next inspection.
Will keep a look out at Pick-a-Part.
Had to fit a new windscreen because the crack had got into the sweep of the wipers  (should have just cut a bit off the wiper really)....... and new brake shoes($38) to my trusty 96 Corolla liftback.
Grog wonder if your customer in the Merc would let their car door slam into mine at the supermarket carpark ??
$400 for a bulb......thats 2 windscreens  :rofl2:

That's mad.
Over here if you fail the NCT( testing for cars) if it fails on anything you can fit used parts as long as it's past the standard and in better condition then the one before it.

A vehicle is complianced as a set amount of seats.
If it's complianced as a 5 seater it needs 5 seats and 5 belts.
Removing or adding a seat needs a mod plate.

Yep it's only fairly recently here that making a motorbike into a single seater no longer requires a mod plate....

I may have been the first.

I was outside the door when they opened on the very first day you could do the free self assessment. I had to explain the new rule changes to the woman behind the counter. Changed both the Busa and B-King to single seat rego. No rear pegs or pillion seat. The road tax stays the same, it's the CTP insurance that's included that drops noticeably.

2 seat rego (road tax) v 1 seat bike rego.

:happy1: Well considering it doesn't say "Suzuki" AND it's a V-twin AND it's WELL UNDER a litre... I'd say the chances of that are... NIL.
