No, he's over here . . .  checking the dearth of 14's in NZ - and having a wee look about the place.

Lord Barmy esq and Mr & Mrs Kiwicol will be partaking of some ale refreshments & a bite this Saturday evening.  It'll be a very pleasant thing, & I'm already well into the salt tablets for the occasion.   Roll on Saturday!

You be careful Col, in the presence of greatness. Today i chose Diavel. Getting used to it. Cant imagine 14 lifting wheel in 3rd, thats what i got today. Bike behind in pic, that is what a new model 14 should be. Best ive ever tried. Brakes not quite as good as Diavel but many times better than 14. They both fly, 185 bhp Yamaha, Akra exhaust n tuned, 162 Ducati. Yamaha every bit as smooth as 14. MT10 my new best ever. Diavel is close but Yam motor much smoother. Im so lucky to get to try these. Ducati has a lot of negatives but fun to ride. Old bloke in heaven i reckon

I've always wondered if I swop the body work between my 2 gsx1400's if one would suddenly speed up and the other slow down .seeing how 1 has nearly 40bhp more than the other one .

Bloody bugger came all the way to Australia and didn't stop in to see me.  I mean the cheek of him. What a prick*

To be fair, I think the closest he came to where I live was approximately 930 kms.
Here that's not far at all, but in England that's probably a fortnight's trip... :stir:.

OMG and I flew here (and will be flying back with) Air NZ!

Where Mrs Barmy and I have been driving up from Queenstown, have mainly seen dirt bikes and BMW Adventure bikes on the road, although there was one beautiful GT750 Water Cooled that kept pace with us coming up towards Franz Josef Glacier - ahh the smell of 2-stroke and memories of my old water buffalo! Only seen the occasional Harley and a handful of other makes though.

Could be either, but he's stuck on the coast at the moment, road is closed & there's no alternate route.

Finally made it to Christchurch this evening after a 10 hour 700Km+ "detour" drive due to a landslide overnight on the road I was due to go north on from Franz Josef to Greymouth to catch the Tranz Alpine to Christchurch. So missed the train, had to extend the hire car for another day. And broke my goddam tooth as well on the drive on a mint. So after that drive was a quick visit to an emergency dentist.

Still.....was a scenic - if long - drive and an expensive one at that, so will be having a few words with the insurance once home.

Never mind another day tomorrow and seeing Mr & Mrs KiwiCol as well  :onya:

Wow Dave. Sounds fantastic holiday. We are going to do something once our little dog passes over rainbow bridge. He is 17 in July. Missus point blank refuses to go abroad now. Not been out of the country for three years now. We did Barbados 11 years on the trot. Planning an holiday of a lifetime down under. Soon as we can. Have a great time.

700+KM diversion. FFS I'll never moan when the local council close a road and make a slight diversion...!

So not often you get a detour where you have to make sure you have a full tank of gas then BB ??

I used to have a strop over a mile diversion when I was commuting to work...

When I was working in Boggabri it was around 400 mile drive to work. Put a dent in 7 hours going via Goondiwindi. Any detours we knew were happening we headed down through Tamworth and back up again, it was over 450 miles but more reliable.  Out here an extra 50 or 100K's isn't that big a deal, i'll Add 100K's just to have better roads some trips.

When we visit my wife's family up North it's 760 miles to their front door.

My GSX11 came from down South, 528 miles to the sellers front door.

Went to a wedding recently that was 630 miles away.

Daughter has just moved South, it's now 1040 miles to go and visit here and take here stuff down.

The size and distances here were one of the attractions. I love it !

Edit: My mate has his own business, and has around 50 vehicles I used to manage. He's pretty fussy about his business image and vehicles so they are all very similar. Same colour, model etc and similar years. A couple of local dealers who supplied him realised this and kept the prices up. He sourced a few vehicles elsewhere but struggled to get a decent price out of the dealers who knew him. One day he got the shits with their prices, jumped on a plane to Perth, bought a vehicle and drove it home. From the dealers back to our yard was 2,685 miles!  It would have been cheaper to pay the dealers but what's a few thousand miles to give them two fingers.... LOL.

Yep as Tony says... it's only distance.

There are even some places where you can drive for a full day and the view hasn't changed at all... (Nullarbor Plain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nullarbor_Plain))

You can drive a decent chunk of the east coast on a road called the Pacific Highway and hardly ever see the Pacific.

You can drive an even bigger chunk of the east coat (up in north Qld) where much of the road is very narrow, sometimes one lane of bitumen with gravel shoulders for passing.

In the outback? 700km to next fuel stop? Oh well that's OK. I thought it would be further.

Not too many landslides here (not too many hills). Instead the road hazards are generally flooded roads, bushfires, and wildlife.
You can write your car off by hitting a kangaroo (or them hitting you usually), or even a wombat.

The quality of Australian roads is second to none (literally). Lots of miles, not many taxpayers.
If you buy a low clearance sports car you are stupid.  Happy maybe, but stupid.
