Hi guys, having a slight issue with my K5, not sure if it's me or the bike to be honest, but it seems lately that if I roll off the throttle and then back on, it don't seem as smooth or as controllable as it used to be. It's not a huge problem, just wondering is someone else has had this issue. Thanks
Is it snatchyll or bogging down? How is it going up through the revs, rides and pulls no problem?
Hi, runs well, pulls fine, no problems with any part of the rev range at all. When I roll off and then back on the throttle it just seems to jerk forward a bit more than it used to. Weird ...
It's chain related.
It's probably time for a New chain & sprockets. Check your chain & sprockets for wear. If you think they are ok, then adjust the tension on your chain and see if it fixes it. If it still continues, then its time to replace them all.
I had the same issue and thought my chain & sprockets were still ok. Then i finally changed them anyway and it is amazing how much smoother the bike is when you replace them. Like a New bike and wish i done it a lot earlier.
Totally agree Sweaty. Quite unbelievable how much better. My chain got a tight link, didnt really take that much notice. should have straight away. Few weeks later thought something inside was stuffed, so loud. Wife even commented that my bike sounded wrong. Sleepless nights. Removed cover at fr. sprocket, spun by hand, could feel it clunking over sprocket. New chain, like a brand new bike. Cut up chain, rusty in most links, Wurth chain lube, Wurthless. Hence the switch to vmx gear oil.
Yep, xhecknyour chain, sounds like theirs a tight spot there. Just replace chain and sprockets shoukd sort it
One more (cheap) thing to check - throttle cable adjustment. Big improvement when I took the slack out of mine. Takes 5 minutes.
Or buy a Triumph, shaft drive and no throttle cable :onya: :stir:
On a more serious note, I agree with the above about checking chain and throttle cable. If neither of those makes a difference, try a couple of tankfuls of injector cleaner and/or have the tank off, turn it upside down, take out the fuel pump and check the state of the 'tea bag' - could be that that's starting to get a little crudded. Also do check that your air filter is in a reasonable state, including checking the air box drain

Don't be ridiculous Saggy, that will really screw it up, TRE's are a complete and utter waste of space and time as proven over the years on this and previous forums
I love a good TRE discussion, we should have more of them....
TRE's aren't popular on 14's.
I've fitted them to Hayabusa 's (both shop plug in and home made 20p resistor) to remove top speed limiters. I've never had an issue in the last 15 years.
Some bikes respond well to them others don't.
Neither a TRE or an ignition advancer is ideal. One electronically sets everything to an identical point in every gear if it suits that gear or not. One mechanically moves everything in every gear even if it was already in a better position in some gears.
TRE's, cam links, crank case breathers, window clutch covers, they really are the "Must have accessories" for a GSX1400. Every bike needs them...... :stir:
Tre can of worms is rightly open

The never ended circle of questioning TRE's, 6-plops, tyres, oil, end cans, Renthals, steering dampers, fork braces, why has my window clutch cover steamed up.
It's the circle of GSX14 life, it go's around and around....
To be fair
@Tony Nitrous The main reason these topics keep coming up is new folk can't be bothered to look at what's already on the forum and think it's like Facebook and if they ask someone will just answer to save them the hassle if looking for themselves
:frustrated:
I agree Seth & Tony but i like the fact people are still buying and asking about these old girls. 20 yr old at work asks me what its like to ride such an OLD retro. Hard to describe but i think that he thinks it has trouble keeping up with traffic. Different breed these new kids. If its over 2 yrs old, not interested. 40 th ks to him is huge.

Yeah, mates with Busa's and B-King can't understand why anyone would go out and buy a Bandit 1200. The guys that like old Skool GSX1100's etc (and some B-King and 1400 owners) can't understand why I love some of the new bikes.
The 1400 forum isn't as bad as some others. Some groups are so narrow minded and refuse to believe that they might not own the Holy Grail of motorcycles and really aren't open to the benefits of other bikes.
As you said, new Kids. They seem a bit surprised when they see how well a modded 19 year old GSX1100 can go, or that I can jump on a scabby old GSX1400 and do 300k's to my first splash of fuel, both ridden by a grey haired old bloke with bad arthritis.
Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. It's not chain snatch, the chain is adjusted correctly, it's had a recent air filter and all the cables seem in good order, but I will check the fuel pump / filters etc. For the record, I did search the forum for any similar topics, but nothing came up.
As far as my 14 goes, I love this bike, it's great fun, it looks a bit like the bikes I had when I was a kid and it does have the aura of a proper muscle bike. :) If I want to go with my buddies and play hogs of the road I'll use my ZZR14, frightening other road users and myself sometimes if I'm honest, but for sheer rideability (if there is such a word), the GSX14 is the better option :)

Hi Eisenfarn,
As I mentioned. Don't rule it out, just because your chain is adjusted correctly. Unless you know exactly how many kms your chain & sprockets have done.
I was anal about my chain adjustment, and it turned out to be worn chain & sprockets.
Agree Sweaty, adjustment not the problem, chain itself, i found that out, pull off front cover, spend some time rolling chain over front sprocket, any tiny bit of unusual movement will give you the answer. Just the smallest change in running by hand is magnified big time under load. I found it hard to believe but was my problem.
