If you were to buy some new textile riding gear, what would you buy ?
Something with lots of kevlar and armour
Rukka - best quality but so so expensive - my jacket cost £800 and worn 3 times :)
I replaced my Hein gerrick kit that was 10 years old with halvasson textiles last year's and used them all year round and very impressed with them.
I bought a new pair of Draggin Drayko Jeans last week for $200.
Australia Post supply Dririder Wet Weather Riding Gear so I use that. I scammed a brand new set that's sitting in my wardrobe at the moment. They can have inner liners removed and ventilate well for Summer too.
I also picked up a Leather Jacket from Aldi which is quite good value.
Yeah, Dririder textile jacket for me. Great all rounder for our weather conditions, with seperate removable wet weather & thermal liners.
Think mine is an Apex, but there are a stack of different models now.
Batkwacka, more info on Aldi leather. Does it have removeable liner or just a winter jacket. Heavy? Havent had a leather for years but they look good, safety stuff is good.
Wife bought me a Dri-Rider leather. (I normally use their textiles).
It has a removable liner and it's been fine in both cooler and warmer months.
Anyone using Spidi, Rev'it, Alpine Star, RST gear. Any thoughts on it, good or bad.
Is Goretex worth the extra cost ?

Not a jacket, but I've been using RST Raptor-2 boots for the last year. I know they aren't the most expensive prestige boot but I'm quite happy with them.
If their other gear is to the same standard / price range I'd be happy with it.
I will look at Rev-it for my next purchase as they do extra long pants and I thing Gore-Tex pro is well worth it as the actual material is waterproof and never gets wet rather than a drop liner which allows the jacket to get very wet and heavy and takes a while to dry fully.

It has a light quilted lining stitched in so it cannot be removed. The armour on the shoulders and elbows is removable. Has good pockets and so far no loose threads. I would rate it quite well, it doesn't have the features of the top brands but is well priced and looks okay. I have faith it will last a spill should it be required.
I use RST stuff too, jacket and trousers with removable waterproof and thermal liners, also have an RST leather jacket which is really comfortable. My boots for the last few years have been ex German army paratrooper boots from ebay. They only cost about £45 and are really robust - you can walk in them too which "proper" bike boots I've had in the past don't allow you to do with any degree of comfort. These things also have a tongue which is sewn in all the way to the top so are waterproof too :smile2:
I use a few makes Richa , Texpeed , Wolf and Triumph I don't really go for matching stuff I tend to buy as I need it and go for the best stuff I can afford at the time.
I have Dainese Gore-Tex pants (laminated over-shell) - totally way to go. Have been riding in heavy rain, and stay absolutely dry. But, you have to keep in mind, what our climate is quite moderate, and in warmer weather, goro-tex gear could be to very hot to wear.
O also have Revit jacket (Sand 2) and totally love it. But my next jacket will be gore-tex for sure. Probably Revit Poseidon 2 GTX. Just love the idea, not to stop to put on rain over-jacket, when it starts raining :)
I wouldn't go for a gore tex.
It fails to perform in hot weather big time.
Ideally the best solution is to have a rain layer that goes on top so you can easily put it on and take it off.
The problem is that very few jacket offer this kind of layering.
Check Siima Sibirsky. It's one aof the few ones i found to be so versatile.
not at all knowing about goretex. if it doesnt work in heat, no good for me. i use R Jays jacket winter, Shark in summer. i bought an english over top rain jacket, works well. waterproof pants, both are kept under seat. gloves get soaked, never worried. my boots are Mongrel work boots, seem to have toe n ankle protection, can walk easily in them. dedicated bike boots annoyed me, so hard to walk. im happy with what i wear. i payed big bucks for a so called best jacket for my wife, 2 yrs later zip jammed. took to a repair shop and was told just crap, not worth repairing. it was a top brand name. bought her a rjays for 1/3 price, no problem. i reckon helmets are likje that, big bucks for a brand. just imo.
