Yet another problem here. Hoping someone has a clue as to what might be the issue?
After priming, I push the starter button and the bike fires into life without any issue.
I then kick it into 1st gear and it cuts the engine out. No FI light or anything. Couple seconds later, 'CHEC' comes up on the LCD and my engine oil light illuminates.
The only way I can get the engine started again is to put the bike into neutral again, it begins priming and starts no problem.
I kick it into 1st, it cuts the engine again.
I need to keep doing this process a few times until it finally lets me put the bike into 1st and take off.
Any idea?
Thinking it's about time I get one of those dealer switches put in, as these electrical issues are becoming fairly frequent.

Check the connections on the topple-over sensor that's under the tank behind and between the coils .
That's what it was when my bike did exactly the same .
It's either that or something amiss with the sidestand switch .

Funny you should say about the side stand switch, as I faintly recall one time my bike not priming until I put the stand down then back up again.
Now I have somewhere to look!
I'm betting it's the side stand switch myself. If you put it into gear with the stand down, it cuts the motor - it's supposed to do that as a safety thing. I'd say the switch is naf (or loose & out of adjustment) & even with the stand up it thinks it's down, thus cutting the motor.
Have a play with the bike on the main stand, running & activating that switch & see what happens.
My first thought... Sounds like the side stand switch.

I'd agree with side stand switch - is it a bit grubby? maybe give the push rod part of it a wipe over with WD40, as it may be sticking slightly.
Or better still, put bike on mainstand, put sidestand down, and then sidestand up, whilst watching what it does. I bet the rod goes back in slowly. Or, just trying waiting about 15 seconds after you have started the bike and put the sidestand up before trying to engage gear. If after 15-20 seconds of waiting it goes into gear without cutting out, then def sidestand switch

Just thought i'd return to let you know how I got on.
You're all correct. It seems to be the side stand switch. I sprayed some WD40 on it and two weeks have passed without the issue happening again, so I guess the switch must have been grubby, as mentioned above. Another thing to watch out for in future!

I spray the sidestand switch with WD40 every time I wash my 14 to avoid these issues. So that's about once every six months :rofl2:
i use Wurth spray grease on switches, levers, stands, brilliant lubricant, water resistant. I spray mine more often than I clean the bike!
Sidestand switch, clutch switch, ignition, tank cap, seat lock etc etc.
Most bits get a bit of WD40.
All the experts have been telling me for 40 years it's wrong and dumb,
but I'm never the one on here having issues.
Works fine for me.
Why do experts say youre wrong Tony? Clean and spray, wd40 does it iin one go. Big fan of it. Try the Wurth, a great protectant after wd blast.
I like both WD40 and the Wurth HHS2000.
I bag up my brakes and give most of the bike a light mist of WD40. Great for cleaning, de-watering and keeps things black. I use a cloth and the airgun to dry it down then spray the Wurth HHS200O on the pivot points of the controls.
