Title: How is your govt running your country.
Post by: Kiwifruit on Friday, 26 October 2018, 08:11 AM
As l have varied interests similar to so many covered on the forum. The bike and motorcycling is a given.
Many on here make comment regarding the PC world into which we are thrust. Our present govt in NZ have stopped any oil and gas exploration in the name of climate change, yet have little regard for those relying on that industry for their employment and income.
They promote greater gender diversity. A company told a female job applicant they had chosen a man for the job because he was stronger and heavy lifting is involved. Its now front page news as she's now decided to have been descriminated against.
Our Prime Minister wishes to take refugees from Manus Island that Australia wants to be rid of. Along with this our govt wishes to double our refugee intake. They get every assistance while so many genuine Kiwis in need go without.
Infrastructure is overloaded, there is a shortage of housing. Migration has put pressure on the demand for housing forcing up property prices. First home buyers are faced with having to service massive mortgages if they want to get on the property ladder.
Don't get me wrong NZ is a great place to live and a wonderful place to visit.
What l don't understand is that we seem unable to learn from the mistakes that have been made by other countries as they lose their national identity through large scale migration.
A Chinese businessman recently donated $100,000 to an opposition political party. It was suggested that he wished to recommend a candidate. It appears the donation was made in many small donations so as to make the donation non declarable and therefore invisible.
To put your head up and oppose, or have a differing view from the PC politicians is likely to get you called a racist or homophobic.......  Certainly not sensible.
So Mark l assure you, you are not alone.

FYI, Akl fuel is still cheaper with the added tax than ours is down here. Just over $2.50 a litre for 95.   It's madness, if you can get fuel at $2.18 or $2.20 a litre, you think you're doing well, until you remember it was just a short time ago it was under $2.00!  We're all being milked & screwed over.

Our government is totally screwed, has been for years.

Too much immigration, bringing in thousands to go on the dole and stay there.

I have been to the Government dentist for treatment twice in the last month.

There were 34 people in the waiting room on my first visit, there were only 2 Aussies.

There were 37 people in the waiting room on my second visit, there were only 4 Aussies.

Bloody joke, all immigrants over the last 15 years should be sent back to wherever they came from.

Any complaints are racist now or discrimination, my son in law has a young lady as an apprentice, the job entails lifting 25kg valves in place, but she can't by law lift a 25kg weight, how the f**K can you be given a job which you will never be able to do.

The world has gone nuts

You get what you vote for, don't forget the Parlaiment is not Govt, we the people govern through our representatives in Parliament. The common problem I find is everybody wants a majority government that end up blocking debate and forcing through unacceptable legislation regardless of which political spectrum the evolve from. Vote for independents and you will find the two (usually 2) majority Parties will have to start working for the common interest instead of Political Party Interests.
For me this like the complaints about millenials, we we created them so we reap what we sow. Same as Politics.

Batty we have got a govt cobbled together from the 3 losing parties. Joined together they just pipped the single most popular party. The party that got 7% of the vote is now the most powerful as the govt was decided by which way they jumped.
If there were an election tomorrow l would be hard pressed to find someone competent to vote for.

We have a Govt formed of two losing parties, the Liberals and the Nationals called a Coalition Government, now a minority again because of in fighting & backstabbing. The benefit of your situation is if one the three small parties deals with the with the fourth they can stop policy being implemented, they would have to be democratic about it. A Majority Govt just sell you off to companies like Adani with your only hope of sanity coming from the senate (except in Qld). The worst times comes when these Parties control Both Houses of Parliament and then watch corruption reign unfettered.
I did read once the problem with modern politics is they are all Lawyers and Accountants, when we need architects, Engineers and other competent people that know what they are talking about. A classic example is the NBN shambles here in Australia because Malcolm Turnbull the accountant was put in charge of infrastructure and had no idea what he was doing, just what the initial price tag would be IF the plans followed his fantasy.

Australia need migrants. What it needs are skilled, hard working migrants not free loaders and dole bludgers, Australia has shown it is quite capable of breeding plenty of those.

Migrants who go through the right channels have skills, money, health, education, police checks, and are a benefit to the country, unlike many who were born here.
The biggest joke are the "Fuck off we're full" bumper stickers, normally on vehicles driven by folk that couldn't get into Australia if they were born elsewhere, and don't realise how the migrant population keeps their country running and will be supporting them in old age and their dole bludging relatives.

We (Australians) have a growing elderly population and the current birthrate and young folk aren't in proportion to support this. The population really isn't the issue in Australia, the lack of infrastructure and work ethics is an issue. The population NEEDS to grow, but it needs to be managed and done correctly.

We should allow in skilled migrants that benefit the country.
We should take asylum seekers, GENUINE ones for who it's a mater of life and death, NOT everyone with a bullshit story who fancy's moving here.
We should also looking at the benefits we give to out own lazy meth heads.

40 years in the UK, 14 years in AU, regular visits back to the UK and trips to many other countries. Do we have a great government in AU? No, but there's a lot worse and much as I shake my head at those in power I'd still rather live here than the UK or anywhere else.

We need more Bob Katter / Dick Smith's types running the place and less corrupt union supporters and those that frequently back stab their own leaders.

Seems like I poked a bear with this!

Strange how most of the comments are of a similar vein. We all appear to be patriotic for our respective countries and I am sure I'm not alone in thinking that things have gone to the dogs in recent years. Politicians are too busy looking after themselves and ensuring their own futures, in my opinion, than representing the folks who voted for them. "Brexit" is an example, whether you voted for it or not the majority did and that's how a democracy works, but you would be forgiven for thinking, courtesy of the media, fashionable comedians and certain politicians, that this is not the case. Cowardly Cameron did one when things didn't go his way leaving Mrs May to pick up the pieces... although I don't particularly like her either. I also agree with the comment about not knowing who to vote for next time...same over here

PC has ruined the world by the sounds of it and until someone grows a spine and tells all these pricks to fuck off things won't improve - but I don't see that happening in my lifetime.

Our PM got stabbed in the back by his own party.

When he lost power he said "enoughs enough, I'm off on Holiday"

His party then got the shits because he didn't defend his own seat or support another member who stood for it.  This WAS important as they govern with barely enough seats.

The dick heads did the dirty on him and cried when he didn't support them afterwards....  :happy1:

They are only in because the opposition is useless and supports corruption or they would have been out ages a go.

Bexit ? Have fun with that one!  :happy1:

My parents were all set to be "£10 Poms" but quit at the last minute.

I was born and lived in Kidderminster for 40 years. I love the history, the countryside etc etc. It's not a terrible place but it didn't suit me, I hate the cold and I wasn't impressed with the way things were changing with the EU / economy. AU is far from perfect but suits me better.

We need more Bob Katter / Dick Smith's types running the place and less corrupt union supporters and those that frequently back stab their own leaders.

I think you should be PM, preferably in the UK but I am sure Auz. would benefit from your approach also.

I am not sure  Political Correctness is the problem, watching the Brexit debate in the UK from across the water, the campaign was almost a competition as to who could lie the most without repercussion. A biased press lit the immigration fires and it just ran away with itself, to the point now where Racism and Racial aggression is now out of control.

Migrants in many professional spheres are fleeing the country they have lived and worked in for years. My local hospital here had two vacancies for doctors, the posts had been vacant for three years. Both posts have been filled in the last couple of months by French Doctors who had been in the UK for over a decade, in an interview they both quoted the rise in Racial abuse to themselves and their families since the referendum as the reason they have returned.

What is sad, (and surely corrupt) is the way a small group of very rich people have convinced a large part of the population that foriegners are the problem. For these elite, it is about tax avoidance, the EU are introducing measures to counter the amount of Tax not being paid but hidden "off shore". There is an absolute vaccum of truth, Politicians saying "we will revert to World Trade Organisation rules" but they don't mention they have to apply and that they have already been blocked by 6 countries including Russia and the USA.

The country depends on immigrants, and as you say for Auz.  These should be controlled and monitored, being in the EU we have "freedom of movement - FOM" where citizens can move to work or live in any EU state. - I benefit from this being Welsh and living in France. The British press has used FOM to blame the EU for mass migration. What they omit to tell the public is that there are restrictions in place to monitor/control and refuse entry to each country, but it is up to each country to implement them. The UK chose not to bother (one of only 3 countries out of the 28 not to bother) they just halved the number of immigration officers instead to save money to give even more tax cuts to the rich.

Like you, I wish those desperate for Brexit all the luck in the world, they are going to need it, but when the shit hits the fan, which it will, they will have to accept it is what they demanded.

I wish I could upvote lil4399 twice.

One thing I hear a lot, when it is suggested that there should be a vote on the exit deal, is along the lines of: "you remainers are just sore because you lost, you didn't like the result and so you want another vote - tough luck, that's democracy".

But how is it democracy to let parliament negotiate (?) a deal for 3 years, then trust them to deliver it without us ever having a say on the outcome? Especially when they've done essentially nothing for the first 2 years except fight among themselves. It's not even the same government we started with, thanks to Mrs May's ill-advised snap election.

You might be happy trusting these clowns to negotiate all the magical new international trade deals we're going to need, but personally I wouldn't even let them renew my broadband contract.

Pleased l am not alone in how l feel. I agree we need immigration. Qualified, skilled, hardworking people that can enhance and add something to NZ. People with similar cultural values or at the very least willing to integrate into the culture. Not those that re-establish the culture from which they have fled. Again the PC brigade tell us we must be sensitive.
The problems l see appear to be common with all those posting.
Your statement  lil4399 rings so true "who can lie the most without repercussion" appears to be the mantra of the professional politician. A comment was made this week that one of our politicians had worn gumboots for a living (farmer). There are not many that can say they have had a real job before entering politics. The common man or woman that has had to make their way in the workforce or have managed home and family seem to be lacking in politics. "Common sense is not so common."

conservatives ; weak and they all hate each other !

labour ; a bunch of throw backs from the 1970's !

liberals ; i think theres 2 of them or maybe 3  :confused1: !

and the rest ; well there all just climbing on each others heads to get a sniff of the above  :jack:

I have no time for any of them and if any of you 14 owners want to go for goverment i'll vote for ya  :onya:

I'm happy for other races and cultures to mix. However.... whilst I have no issues with different clothing, religion, food, culture etc, common sense and a grasp of reality says that turning up in another country you need to speak their language and follow their laws.  Enteringing into someone else's country should always be a compromise. Staying true to your own culture whilst at least doing the minimum (legal and language) to conform.

As an atheist I never understand the religious intolerance angle, basically most religions follow the one God but kill each other over how to worship him/her (see, I'm PC ) the whole "my imaginary friend is the real one, yours is an imposter and following it is heracy "completly baffles me. I admire the faith people have, and quite often, the good they do in their God's name, but it is the intolerance of others that I just cannot understand. But the worst of it all, are the Politicians who use the intolerance in people to achieve their own ambitions.

My favourite Comedian  (and 2nd favourite biker) got it right when he said "Politicians should be banned from the profession purely on the grounds that they wanted to be one in the first place". - Billy Connelly.

I am not sure where you got those ideas about China, but there are at least 5 major officially recognised religions in China. Many of these are subdivided into dozens of minor folk religions, depending on the region.

There are 4 official languages in China; Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese and English (again, depending on region). I tried to look up the number of indigenous languages and lost count - there were 7 beginning with 'A'...

As far as I know China doesn't 'throw people out' for not conforming, although there is a news story at the moment about internment camps being built for Muslims (the Chinese claim that these are voluntary education centres).

The United Kingdom officially has a secular government; the church isn't allowed to interfere in affairs of state. It's a constitutional monarchy that allows freedom of religion (including the freedom not to have a religion). In the last census 59.5% of people identified themselves as Christian, although I very much doubt that they all go to church.

So I'm not sure what point you are making here. You don't want to let people immigrate unless they are white Christians?

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding there. I wasn't trying to imply that KF was intolerant. The issue was about PC people saying that everyone has to be 'sensitive' - I just think 'tolerant' is a more realistic thing to ask for.

I'm sure most people on here are nice in person. Even me.
