Having previously put a post up about Givi pannier racks being as rare as rocking horse shit and therefore the second hand prices are at stupid prices I thought I would give you and update.
I purchased the Givi top box rack 527FZ. I put it on mt 2006FE and then after having read on the net that someone said the pannier racks from a Honda VFR800 fits. Well as I have a VFR800 and the pannier racks to go with them, I took them off the Honda and was shocked to find that with only a few slight adjustments they fit perfectly. The hole on the arm that attaches to the pillion foot rest needed to be filed out by approx 5mm. The other little problem is easily solved. The rear standard size indicators are about 3cm to long. However as I had some smaller LED indicators to put on. When this was done the panniers fitted perfectly. It would be easy if you wanted to to attach some indicators to the bottom of the top box. The bar that joins the side racks together that goes under the rear light needs no adjustments.
My VFR800 is the pre V-TEC version and I know that the Givi fittings for the later version are different so only buy the pannier racks that fit the VFR800FI pre 2001.
I will post some picture of this in the next week or so but I'm sure someone will find this helpful. I know I was happy not to have to spend over £200.
Very good news this Granty. I'm sure there'll be lots of members that'll benefit from your find. :onya:
Thanks for the tip. Who would have thought to try that?
Awesome - so there's an option finally.
Unfortunately still the cost of panniers and a rack but at least it's possible ! Cheers !
That's a great find thanks for posting it :onya:

The good thing is that givi and kappa boxes and maybe others will fit and can be gotten 2nd hand from off any bike it's the rack that's the problem and looks like there is a solution for that now
:onya:
Hopefully pictures can be sorted soon. Mt bike is being stored at a mates as just had house move. When garage is cleared enough to get bike in I will do the pictures.
Sorry its taken a while but I now have bike back from mates and finally got around to fitting the VFR 800 Givi racks to it. And took Pictures to show.
As with my previous post this cannot be done with the original indicators as they are to long. I have fitted small LED ones and have done and have fitted a modified undertray. However I did measure it up with the original before hand and it still fits with no problems. In fact It might be easier as the number plate would be lower.
The VFR800 racks come from the FI model which is pre VTEC. Up to year 2001 I think.
They bolt on to to the standard GSX1400 topbox rack.
At the rear foot pegs you need to take out the pin that goes through with the lower clip and replace it with longer bolts as the pin is to short. For the photos I have not cut the bolts to size as I will do this at a later date. I would also put a nut between the foot rest and the arm of the pannier rack. I would also put two nuts under the arm to secure it. ( I hope that makes sense)
The only problem I have is that the bar that goes across the back blocks out the number plate a little so I will just make a small bracket to lower the number plate. This will stop P.C. Plod getting fussy. On the original undertray the number plate is lower so it does not have this problem.
I hope this helps? I got the VFR pannier racks of ebay for under £30. Very cheap considering Ive seen GSX1400 ones go for over £200.
We'll ive had a play fitting a set of tiger explorer pannier frames onto the 1400. And so far so good. Need to do the right hand side as yet but the left is on. And sturdy.
OK watching this thread and considering doing something similar for mine. Perhaps maybe.
Worst that can happen is it all goes tits up.
My left has gone on ok. With the help of a hacksaw and drill Think the right will need a bigger hammer.
So the vfr frames are the pl257
If I'm right. About £90 ish new
Great, looks like I'll be purchasing the vfr 800 ones so, they seem to fit with little modification.... Thank christ
How did the Triumph Explorer ones go in the end? :whatever:
My concern is around whether I can fit panniers given the Akro can, which is higher than the stock exhaust.
Givi luggage fits with full akroprovic system no problem as that's the set up I had on my k2 .
It's such a shamp you can't get the Oxford quick release Evo ones but any kind of panniers is definitely a bonus, soft bags are a pain in the tits.
Vfr800 it is :boogie:
The triumph ones were Spain to fit. But the vfr ones which I now have are a lot easier.
Got a new set from a company in Barcelona for £83 ish Inc post
I'm not into panniers, and as I usually ride solo, I've made a tandem top box set up for my 1400.
Makes for easier filtering, and with a pad on the front box, I have something to rest against.
Picture isn't the best, but it's the only one in my phone with the boxes on the bike at the moment.
Cheers.
Mark...
Can't attach the picture!
Each to thier own as ever but I can't see the point of the 2nd too box over the seat .
My question would be how do you get the seat off if you need And if you don't your lossing all the underwear storage space .
I have a set up similar to that, not that i wanted it, but thanks to my mate Sweaty
It's only held on by 4 bolts, so takes seconds to get off.
How many does one need?🤣
I've been using this set up since 2008 and it's been good.
That should say, how many pants does one need?

My uncle was a pilot in the RAF in WW2 - he say one pair every 4 days - front to back then turn inside out and start again :)

Works fine with the correct pannier racks so if these others are at the same height (& it looks like they are as they match the top rail) it'll be fine.

Great work! I can see that you tack weld rack parts on the bike... Is there any chance to damage electronic parts while welding? I made myself panniers racks too, but it was PITA to weld it to sit correctly without tacking it on the bike because I was afraid I might damage something.

Disconnect the battery, and make sure that in the process of welding you aren't close enough to any wires etc to melt them :)
Unplug & remove the ECU too if you're feeling paranoid.
Disconnect ECU and batery and no problem with welding on bike :onya:
Just wondering how "rare" the pannier racks are?
I had no problem ordering a brand new set of Givi pannier racks for the 1400 from my local Motorcycle dealership. Picked them up a few months back. Did a quick trial fit and all good. Now they're sitting in the cupboard ready for next year when the wife and I plan on taking a bit of long service leave and go touring.
@BlueDragon You where very lucky then as I bought mine a few years ago, and was lucky after phoning the Australian importer he found his last set on the shelve, but I still had to go through a dealer as he wouldn't supply direct.
Hey Granty, I'm pretty sure that spreader bar over your number plate is fitted incorrectly
On mine the original indicators are totally removed from the rear fender
That spreader bar slides through the holes that are left and the indicators mounted elsewhere
On mine they are mounted under to top box rack plate with home made brackets

@VladTepes Apologies. I missed this.
No link. I just went into a few of the local shops. They all said to go to the kawasaki dealer as they were the ones with the Givi contact.
So went in and asked if they could check if the pannier racks for a GSX1400 were still available and they made a phone call. Short story, ordered and received.
Part number is PLX537.
Strangely though. The part number is no longer showing up in searches. There used to be several sets on ebay when I was looking for the pannier racks. Now there are none.
Lots of the VFR800. which I almost bought a set for my VFR as well, but for a few hundred more I got a bargain and ended up with a set of Honda OEM panniers and rack for the VFR instead. Means I need to store 2 lots of panniers but hey.. I like the Honda mounting design way better than the Givi design. The givi design for the VFR,if you don't use their top box, relies on some really really long bolts and and outer sleeve to then bolt into the frame - to me a real weak point and a lot of stress on the frame as well.
Forgot to mention.
That part number is for a pannier rack to fit the V35/V37 Givi panniers only
