Anyone have a quick-shifter on their 14 ?
What advantages, if any, would it offer to an essentially standard bike...
I see this mob sell one... http://www.ptr.com.au/gsx14/dqspull.html
details: http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/products/QuickShifter/powercommander_quick_shifter.aspx
not yet but have one in the garage to fit this year
I do.
pure fun and little bit better acceleration :)
Are any other mods needed ( to linkages etc) ?
linkage is shorter to make room for the quick shifter unit
just a simple cut or new linkage?
new linkage or cut and thread the old one i can measure the replacement one if you needing the size
I run a HM shifter on my busa, great but for occasional use only, the gearbox and clutch basket get hammered if you use them all the time.
TonyB used to have one on the 14 he had an accident on, which I think Tallman has now. Tony had the Dynojet one (from memory), which linked up with his PCIII.
You' have to ask TonyB for more details as after that I don't have anymore.

That'd be good for forum records / posterity mate. :)
I'll get to it over the weekend

"push type" Dynojet quickshifter for PCV have right hand mail tread and left hand femail tread. Original linkage have right-hand tread on one end and left hand on other. Because of this, original linkage could not be used with this quickshofter.
There is also other quickshifters beside what I have , but I do not know what treads they have. You can use any push-type of them, because they are basically just off>on type switches. The length of new linkage depends of quickshifter dimensions. Connected, they have to be same length as OEM linkage is.
I use staines steel M6 left hand tread rod, which I get on ebay, to substitute OEM linkage.
What revs do you have the quickshifter kick in at?
I gather you can set them so they don't activate under a certain RPM so you aren't constantly kicking up gears in traffic....
@northern @seth How does the quickshifter tie in with the PC3? As in by what connections? I can't find any installation manual etc to figure it out.
And is any change to maps required? I wouldn't have thought so but....

Look on the Powercommander site Mike under Products http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/products/QuickShifter/powercommander_quick_shifter.aspx
@VladTepes
haven't fitted mine yet vlad but it will be via a pcv when it does
baso has a quick shifter on his bike running a pc3
That doesn't seem to cover what I'm asking - does it just plug in-line (serial) with the power commander?
I'm assuming you have a PC III USB Mike? From memory it plugs into that unit and you then download the necessary software (as per my link) and firmware upgrade (if required)
To be totally sure though you may have to email the Power Commander people as I'm not sure any regular contributor on here has one actually fitted
Yeah I do have a PCIII USB.
It's academic though, An unforseen and adverse change in income has put a line under the discretionary spending....
Bugger. It's all fine though, It's not as if I can't ride it as is :)
@VladTepes I have PCV.
I find some picure from internet:
there is small holes left from central cable (first picture). Those are different analog input's, which can be configured from Dynojet software. Connecting shifter cables there, you can choose what type of shifter you use (normally open circuit or normally closed circuit) fuel cutting time in milliseconds and etc...
Not sure about PC3, but second picture is also from internet... I hope, management software also enable to activate shifter.
Recently fitted a Dynojet quickshifter to mine, it plugs straight in to the auxilliary port on the PC3 but you have to "enable" the quick shift feature, (PCV enables automatically).
To do this you need to download the PC3 Control Centre Software and the Shift Kill Software for PC3USB from here http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/downloads/powercommander_downloads.aspx?ProdType=PCIIIUSB (http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/downloads/powercommander_downloads.aspx?ProdType=PCIIIUSB) ideally to a laptop, (must be windows operating system). Once quick shifter is fitted and connected connect laptop via usb cable to the mini usb socket on the PC3 and run the Shift Kill software, (IMPORTANT: ENGINE NEEDS TO BE RUNNING) you will see a graphic of a PC3, simply click where it says "Enable" and all is done.
Quickshifters for the GSX are preset to cut the ignition for 65 milli-seconds and only to "enable" above 4000rpm, if you want to alter these settings you need to run the control centre software which will allow you to change the "kill" time and the engine speed at which the quick shift becomes active.
With regards length of gear linkage, you just need to tell them bike model and/or length of current gear linkage and they will send the correct part/parts to fit, to fine tune the length, the linkage shafts are pre-marked at 8mm intervals to aid cutting. I have rearsets on mine so needed a fairly long linkage which wasn't a problem.
I also noticed that the quickshifter performs best when engine is up to temperature, don't expect slick gear changes when the engine/gearbox is cold, and contrary to what a lot of people think, you are not onliged to "quickshift" all the time, it quite happily accomodates "normal" gear changes with or without clutch.
:cruisin:
Thanks Ian.
