Here's the 4th teaser video from Suzuki. Unlike the first 3, it actually shows a bit of the bike:
DWUYTG3qh-A
Mmmm ...actually doesn't look so bad in that vid.... back end is still odd tho. Will watch with interest when it's released.
Please don't let it be a soft version of a castrated GSXR1000.
What is the meaning of "Katana"
"Katana"
Kawasaki's
Are
Tame
And
Not
Adventurous
Probably got it wrong . . .

What is the meaning of "Katana"
Curved Japanese (Samuri?) Sword.
The sword was something special, as was the 1000 and 1100 Superbikes.
Sadly the 750, 650, 600, 400 and 50cc "Katana's" weren't, and just dumbed the name down.
I'd love a new Kat to be something special, a top end Superbike, naked or faired, sadly, I have a feeling it's going to be a Beetle / Mini / Jeep / Z900 / CB1100 styling job that has a hint of the past on something that's pretty average.
Agree Tony.
Well it was announced today and I am fairly disappointed. It's just a GSX-S1000 in a bodykit:

https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/news/2018/october/suzuki-2019-katana-gsx-r1000
And a 12 litre fuel tank will get really annoying, really quickly.
Very disappointing... looks half arsed to me. Someone needs to take those designers and line them up against a wall....
Not impressed they have jumped on the z900rs bandwagon wrapping a defined sports bike in sheep's clothing .
Must do better .
:frustrated:
12 liter tank - that is so laughable that a further look at the potato-knife is not needed.
NO!
The original big Kat was a top end, high performance, class leader. It really was something special. This is just another soft version of a Sportsbike engine with a few odd looking panels. I see why they make the Mini, Beetle, CB1100, Z900 etc and try and sell them off the image of something that was once great, it does nothing for me.
Not worth all the commotion. Kind of disapointing actually.
Well, that is an ugly pig that you will be filling up ever 150kms. If that is the best they can come up with for a legendary bike, then they need to slap each other across the face & hand in their resignation
I think Kawasaki have done a good job on the Z900 rs & think it's a good modern spin on a classic (from a visual perspective at least)
The new Z is an old Z in new clothes and that has a tiny 16ltr tank to
These things are made for going and riding around town to be seen on not to be really used on the open roads.
:frustrated:
Fugly.....
Bit of a disappointment.
I'm not keen on those single sided number plate/rear light support arms, and I feel there's something wrong with the screen/bars position, the screen looks too low, the bars too high, and too far from the screen.
Then I see the tank only holds 12 litres.
I was really hoping, trying get a new Suzuki model that was top notch. will wait to i see in flesh. i was same with gsx 1000s when it came out, took one for a ride. just not me. cleaned and polished mine today, so much better to look at. then i rode it. never fails to make me wish my ride was longer.
If it actually looked like a Katana, and I had heaps of spare money....

By boring out the crankcase and fitting external oil ways you can for a gsx1100efe 1260cc big bore kit I've seen one fitted to a gs1000 and the bottom ends are basically the same.
Yeah, the old aircooled bikes had much more meat in them to allow to go big.
I think Busa pistons, in Bandit liners, in EF barrels gives a 1370.
A bit of machining but it's an all Suzuki motor.
Star Racing have done 1922cc top ends on Suzuki cases.

It just goes to show with a very little work all the big old suzuki's were basically a development of the gs1000 motor
On the 1135 motor they changed the oil flow to the head from the outer head bolts to the Center ones.
The right-hand side was easy remover the big bolt fit lines to the head.
The left side needed a boss welding in side the generator cove then drilling at right angles to run external lines to the head for the head both sides you needed to drill out the blanking plugs and retap .
The busa bandit stuff must be a newer development as i stopped looking after I sold my gs in 1998.

Now I do like that a lot
@Tony Nitrous :onya:
I guess there are a lot of very expensive after market bolt on items on it to make it look that good though?
If the fuel tank is only 12 litres it won't get me very far though :furious:
Ive posted this before, but if a Kat has any connection to a GSXR1000 it needs to look like this and use the full Monty motor...

Now that's what a Katana should look like
Call me a philistine - but it doesn't do it for me. Perhaps with a can and tail tidy - and squint a little?
