Hi folks,
thinking of getting some gold Renthals to go with my Black GSX. I read many folk favour the ultra low variant.
It seems to be that getting ultra lows (which also seem a bit straighter as well horizontally) mean the riding position will become "less upright".
I dont have a problem with that in principle but how does that have any effect on peoples shoulders and backs given then would be leaning forward a bit further?
Also does it have much effect on how your feet engage with the gear shifter and rear brake pedal? Will these need adjusting?
I fitted a pair of ultra lows for a while. Great bars, really well made, but they were just too low for me. I'm 6' 1" and I found that I preferred the bike with standard bars.
Only one way to find out really. You can buy my old ones if you like.
Renthals ultra low is super comfortable (for me) but only after I replace risers: 1cm up and 2cm back.
There is my post from earlier: http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=1146.msg11910#msg11910

How wide are they?
725 - standard is 730 :)
I have Renthal 789's on 4 of my bikes, they fit and suit me fine.
It's hard to recommend bars unless your the same height and size, same experience, same riding style etc etc.
Thanks Notty, i'm looking for something wider.

This might help you choose.

Bit of an update - I went with the 789 bars instead. Slightly higher, and I quite like the black crossbar.
I notice the bars are a bit longer, and wanted to buy some stubby bar ends instead of the longer weighted ones.
Does it matter that the renthals wont have weights at the ends?
You get a bit more vibration without the weights that's all.

I've swapped around various bar ends.
My 14 currently has the big heavy ones, but Bandit, Busa and King have light aftermarket ones. I struggle to notice any difference. It's not hard to fit factory bar ends to Renthal bars, the heavy bar end isn't the issue, you just need the different internal bit to fit the Renthals.

just put road bike low on mine with some heavy brass weights - not ridden it yet :smile2:
I like my Renthal "789" bar.
Not hard to put heavy bar ends on alloy Renthals....

Cheers for replies. I know I can fit the stock bar ends, but I dont want to add the extra 7cm or so of total width.
Ill get a pair of short bar ends and see how it works out.
As I said, I run thin light alloy Renthal / Moto-X bar ends on my other bikes, similar big IL4 Suzuki's and have never noticed much difference or thought it was an issue, even on long runs.

Having ridden 14s back to back with different end weights & the same bars, I could feel a difference. Wasn't a lot but it was there.
I have the ultra low, which don't actually look that 'ultra low' personally I find them marginally more comfortable I'm 5 11"
On a side note I've fitted bar end mirrors and find these infinatly better than stock for visibility :onya:
Good to see you back Red
Love your bike Red. That tank is awesome. Bar ends , just work so well. Ive had around 5 yrs now, cheap chinese i buy, less than $15. One lot had imperfect glass, e mailed, got a free set. Thats only fault i can find. Must have 6 or 8 stored away. Would i pay for so called quality ones, never. Cant see how any better at 10x price.
Lol Im the same Grog, must have 2/3 sets floating around the Garage.
The last set of those slim depth ones just didnt reach far enough!
