Title: Kidney belts
Post by: ARH on Monday, 17 September 2018, 09:14 PM
Use one or not?  Read a bit on these over the last few days and get mixed thoughts.  Some say best thing since sliced bread...others say don't use them as they provide 'artificial support' and muscles get dependant on them.   I'm not sure... your thoughts?

I had one years ago mostly in the winter to help keep my lower back warm but I changes my riding kit so now it's built in to my winter/wet weather trousers .
It worked well and keeping your lowerback/kidney area warmer seams to help keep your whole body warmer to a point anyway.

I used them long time ago. Warmth is the main reason I would use one. Best was an orthopedic one that I cut and put a zipper in. Kept pretty warm in the winter.

As to the artificial support dependency: I don't think it is an issue unless you wear the belt a lot (a hell of a lot), ride moto cross or Belgian roads :whistling: There are orthopedic conditions where I would advice wearing one when on a bike. For the normal person I would recommend doing squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, and bent-over- rows to strengthen the back

I use one on long rides in Oz and find it good, it also helps stop my gut from rubbing against the tank, the elastic is quite stretched now.

I have Rukka LB. I found it useful and wouldn't drive without one anymore. I think it actually gives support on your lower back on longer runs as I tend to forget to keep the posture. Anyhow Andre is right on this one. Get your gym membership. :onya:

I would like to have Kastor 2.0 from Rukka. They have top products. Just Google and you'll see what I mean.
