Finished my "winter" project (couldn't wait)! 1997. TL1000S front end on my 14. Real winter project will be making extensions to maintain standard front end height. Happy with cornering but too low for my taste. Finally my bike looks as I always wanted it to look! :smitten:
.
Nice job Mlivkovich. Looks 'beefy' First I've heard of a TL1000s front being put on a 14, normally hear of Kings or Busa front. Pleased you're happy with it now - albeit a bit low.
Looks great
And a bit different from the norm.
:onya:
If anyone is interested, 14's and TL's front wheel, bearings, brake discs and axle are the same, so money can be saved.
Interesting.
I'd live a whole TL though 😁
Awesome job mate.
That front end represents the 14 way better. 💖

Had one for 5 years. Nice bike, I'd love it too next to my 14. Interesting thing, that front end is from the bike I owned 15 years ago, so part of my old love is back! :smitten:
mlivkovich, that looks great. Well done.
Only thing I'd add, is having owner a B-King and riden several Gen-2 Busa 's I'd personally go for a more modern radial braked front end but that's just me.
We all have different wants and goals, not putting your work down at all. You've done a great job and my lazy arse hasn't got around to doing mine!
Looks great! Really suits the 14 and makes it look a lot beefier. :clapping: Are you planning to raise the front end a bit and if so how?
Looks really good, job well done.

I would also really like to have golden/black/radial forks and brakes, it looks more nasty . But this was once-in-a-lifetime-oportunity, I paid it cca 70€, so I can tell it was a gift! All I had to do is to take it off from the bike which is 100km away from my home.

My plan is to make 7 cm long extensions to raise it back to standard height. Also, I will have to buy new heavier springs because theese are way too soft even on TL. Gsx is cca 50 kg heavier bike plus my 120 kg.... :whistling:
Will give my best to have useable USD fork!
First step to make TLS fork work on 14 is to put stiffer springs. I ordered 1.2 kg/mm progressive springs (standard 0.75 kg/mm). Front end doesn't dive under braking anymore and it's much stiffer and precise in corners. Rode it cca 200km (100km two-up) and zip tie shows me that fork travel if far from its end , no bottoming anymore. Happy with upgrade! :imrgreen:
Nice job Mladen, looks very good. :worshippy: Look forward to see the pics with the extensions.
Really like the look of that front end .was the yoke spindle and wheel spindle used from the TL or the GSX. It's got me thinking about doing mine

Wheel spindles are the same, ony difference is that on TL spindle fits 27mm wrench and gsx spindle needs 24mm hex wrench. Yoke spindle has to be custom made. TL uses both upper and lower bearings 32006 and gsx uses 32006 lower and 32005 upper bearing. Also, gsx steering head is longer than TL's but TL lower clamp is 15mm thicker. Sounds little complicated but it's easy job for machinist.
Thank you I should of found this out before I bought TL forks and yokes. Am I right in thinking that I could get the gsx spindle machined to fit

Actually, I had machined my gsx spindle to fit. TL spindle is slightly bigger diameter in lower area and I welded 15mm to extend gsx spindle and make it thicker to be able to machine it to fit TL lower yoke. I made a little mistake and now spindle is sticking out too much from upper yoke because gsx yoke is thicker than TL's. I used TL nut as a spacer but I will make new spacer to fit. Take a good measurements and machine new spindle, less worries! :hat:
Ok that's a big help may the fun begin . Going to get progressive springs hopefully that will compensate the weight difference. Has your upgrade improved handling much. Really appreciate the help thank you
Handling is much sharper now! But real reason for that is changed geometry. Once I extend forks, I think it will handle like it did before but with stiffer front end, matched for my weight. Oh, and the looks.... :smitten:
@mlivkovich There is a company called extreme creations that make fork tube extenders to fit those forks .
https://www.extremecreations.com.au/fork-extensions
Might save you loads of time and grief .
I have extensions for my bking front end that getting fitted this winter .
Thank you seth! I've seen this site and their products but it's too pricey for me :frustrated:
I am able to make these for cca 100€ (material + machining),
If you can make them that cheaply then there is a ready market for them in the uk .
:onya:
I finally made fork extensions. Made of stainless steel, forks extended 55mm. Total cost 60€.
.
.
Interesting :jack:
Mliv, so whats the comparison performance wise? I cant see much diff on Diavel except brakes, 10x better.

Brakes grab better (4 pot tokicos), stiffer front end (I put progressive springs) and imho it looks better.
Thanks mate. Agree they look superb.
They do look great. Congrats on your excellent work !
But I'd prefer a set of TL1000 forks, attached to the rest of a TL1000 !

I owned and rode that set of forks attached to the rest of TL1000S for 5 years :8:
Mliv, your thoughts on TL?
Great bike! Great torque, pulls like train from 2000 rpm. Under 2000rpm (in city traffic) i had to use clutch all the time (vibrates and stalls easy). Too cramped for my height (202cm) but big fun on twisties and it showed me x times it's a real wheelie machine! Scared me 'cause I don't do wheelies :frustrated:
I would really like to own TLS again but this time with higher screen and lower footpegs although i did few longer trips witn no problem at all
