Hey guys, hope you're all well.
Just a quick one here. Maybe one of you know the answer.
Had my full bike licence for about 6yr now. Going to force myself into getting the car entitlement. When shopping for insurance, they ask the licence type. What do I put in? I personally would put in 'Provisional' as I havn't yet passed a car test, but I don't know.
Was on the phone with Admiral last night and the guy was adamant that I had a full UK licence and they couldn't activate the policy because there's something flagging up on their systems with regards to my licence information.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Personally I'd ring the DVLA for guidance, as arguably both answers are correct - full for motorcycle but provisional for car - 0300 790 6801

They are open until 19:00
I'd say provisional too. After all they'll be asking about the class of licence needed for a car.
That's what I had to put for bikes years ago when I already had my car & PSV licences.
Assuming you are shopping for car insurance, for that purpose you have a provisional licence. You'll be driving round with L plates on and a qualified driver sitting next to you, which makes you a learner driver by any possible definition of the term.
I agree you are a learner in the car so for car insurance you have a provisional licence.
Hi Dan,
My missus was in the same boat, full bike license and riding for over 20 years before she got a car license. Didn't make a blind bit of difference to her car insurance once she'd passed the test - despite having more road sense than the majority of the fuckwit tomatoes out there in cars.
I wonder if advanced rider/driver discounts transfer? Not that I've got one, lol, but they're focused on road safety more than the driving test is.
Probably don't tho', there's no money to be made in a common sense approach...
Cheers
Ghost
Common sense is not that common :hat:
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. I couldn't call them when I needed the information, so I just left this message here to see if anyone knew.
Just got off the phone to them. They said they can't give me an answer as it's the insurance company who deal with it. Not much help! :frustrated:
