Title: Givi pannier racks.
Post by: Granty on Saturday, 01 September 2018, 05:23 AM
I know that the Givi pannier racks are rare for the GSX1400. I'm looking for some but I've just watched in astonishment as a set has just sold on ebay for £222.

Has the world gone mad? It seems prices on ebay for everything has gone mad.

That's how economics works. When something is rare and people want it, the price goes up.

Well ive resently been very lucky and bought a set of sw motech frames and fixings for either givi or Kapa for £130 in very good nick  so they are out there but you have to be patient ! ..... ive been looking for over a year for a set to come up so they are rare !!!
£222 was cheap ! ... the only company at the minute that has luggage in stock for the 14 is hepco & becker and they are £800 for a full setup ... but they only have one set left and thats it there not making anymore .
There is an italian company that make a set for the 14 but they are out of stock and again no guaranty they will make more !

This reminds me. If/when I ever get my garage sorted out into a decent workshop I'm buying a pipe bender & making copies of my Givi panier racks. There must be a profit in it at those prices & if I weld them (rather than the blob of braze Givi use) they'll be stronger too. Even better if I use paint that actually protects the metal.

I recently got hold of a set of these for mine for a bit less than £222, then I had to remove the left hand side exhaust bracket from the pillion foot peg as the rack was for a later model 14. A late edition rear set would do the job but Suzuki dealers want £120 for it. Seems like they are like rocking horse sh!t. Currently waiting for Givi to send me the kit of nuts and bolts to fit it to the bike - they do still at least make them

You didn't!!!!!

Those early LH pegs with the mount sell for loads as people want them to fit twin pipes, you could have made a profit buying a 2nd hand later one to swap it with.

I did, didn't know there was a market for them
Oh well you live and learn. Guess I'll ask before I decide to do any further "mods". I'd looked on bike breaker sites for later rear sets with no joy which is why I altered it.
Apologies to anyone who wanted one for the purpose mentioned by Hooli

Granty,

Are you totally wedded to it being Givi?

The Shad system is still available brand new:
https://www.shad.co.uk/product/5030/suzuki-gsx1400-side-master-pannier-fitting-kit
(https://www.shad.co.uk/product/5030/suzuki-gsx1400-side-master-pannier-fitting-kit)

I had them fitted to mine for the trip to Croatia and they worked out fine. A shame really because they are now sat idle at the back of the garage. I'm still not sure if I should hold on or sell.

I've never heard of Shad before. Do you need Shad boxes or do others fit?

I'm not sure, but I would bet on it being a unique system. I purchased the side frames, side cases and inner bags and used it in conjunction with a Rentec carrier that I already had.

I'm not totally wedded to Givi. But as I have Givi rack and topbox and givi panniers from a previous bike I did hope to find some pannier racks, but not at the stupid prices they are going for.

It'd be interesting to measure up with a givi box as I'll end up in the same position as Granty once my givi rack rots out again.

Shad actually make all the OEM boxes for BMW, Triumph and a couple of other bikes.

If you decide to sell, let me know. I'm planning a bit of touring next year so I'm interested.
