Looking to see what others carry.
Found myself in need of a flat head screwdriver on the weekend and that got me thinking about what else I'm missing.
Thankyou
Flat screwdriver, Cross head screwdriver, assorted allen keys, 8-14mm spanners, med crescent, long nose pliers, CRC, cable ties, elect tape, Tyre repair can & puncture repair kit, first aid kit, torch, pocket knife, spare cash - coins, circuit tester. Could be more, but that's off the top on me head on what's under the seat.
On a long ride, wet weather gear there too.
And i guess the kitchen sink is handy when you Finnish a roed side repair :imrgreen:
But seriously it is always handy to have a selection of tools and a way of mending a puncture .
& a couple of filled rolls & a can of drink. & Loo paper!!
Other than the bikes standard tool kit I carry visor clean spray and cloths.. And one of these..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/132282961234?chn=ps
I carry the visor cleaner & cloths in the bag on the back. easier to get at & don't have to repack the whole underneath.
Ye i take some visor spray and cloth in my jacket pocket so i allways have it .
Wet Wipes :notworthy:
Puncher repair kit, visor cleaner and a micro fibre cloth, skeletool

That's the advantage of living on your little Island.
Wouldn't be much use on some of the rides we do out here. I've done some real long sections without seeing anyone or having any phone reception.
I have the bike tool kit and a tin of tyre weld ..... yep thats it !! :whistling:
Bike's original tool kit, spare bulbs, cloth, visor wipes, waterproof overtrousers and a security chain. It's great to have all that space in there.
I carry a lock and chain .
Front axle adapter and adjustable spanner.
Small multi socket/allen key/screwdriver set .
Tyre weld and puncture repair kit .
Extra spanners and allen keys.
Air bed pump.
1 set of spare leavers.
Think that's all 🤯
Full tool kit plus more Allen keys and spanner's.
Plugs x2.
Both levers.
Bag ties various sizes. Got mate out of shit a week ago with one.
Micro fibre cloth for last minute polishing.
Lock and key.
Spare headlight bulb.
Disc lock pouch.
Plus large pencil case containing phone wallet, cards etc.
Cap.
Oakley vault for sunglasses.
Bloody great for under seat storage....
Bought some (allegedly) waterproof boots today but had no means of carrying them home..
So bought a cargo net from the same place..
The cargo net now lives under my seat as its very useful for unexpected purchases !
Any photos of how you cram that in there Basil Brush?
Had to carry some shopping. Had no room in top box or under seat.
Asked the checkout lady to put one bag inside another bag. Oh the look !! (Our govt is going to ban single use plastic bags) And some snotty biker wants TWO bags.
Hung it off my left mirror.....then off to dads. Perfect. :onya:
I went around my bike to determine exactly what tools I needed to carry as to what I thought I might need for a breakdown by he side of the road (as opposed to catastrophic failure).
So carry standard tool kit to which I have added a couple of bits to, front wheel removal bolt, Pannier rack removal key, spare fuses, air pump, puncture repair kit, small roll of electrical tape, some electric ties and a couple of sachets of sugar (the type you get from motorway services).
Why?
Because if you get greasy hands, assuming you can find a public toilet, a couple of squirts of their liquid soap, add the sugar sachet and you have instant makeshift swarfega fir getting your hands clean which readily washes away. Works a treat.
Tyre weld, standard tool kit, various Allen keys, 1/4" socket set, puncture kit with co2 canisters, spare bulbs, spare levers, front axle tool, pressure gauge, first aid kit and rag for my hands.
Seems I need to add a stator, reg/rec and test meter to the list!
havent checked under seat for a while, did tonite. standard tool kit, allen keys, 1/4 drive socket set, digital tyre gauge, rags, waterproof over jacket, waterproof pants, first aid kit, toilet roll, face wipes, panadol, fr. axle tool, fuses, wire, tie wire, insulation tape, $50 bill, thermal under gloves, head light globe, indicator globe, map. all i can find.
Not really a tool, but on one of my bikes I have a battered old iPhone and a 12v charger wired into a ignition only live feed and tucked away out of sight.
It's set up for "find my phone". Let's the wife know where I am on long solo rides, and if the bikes stolen it gives me a little advantage as long as it's not a 1000k's out west or until they spot it.
Standard tool kit plus a 19mm ratchet spanner to go with a front axle hex nut, assorted Allen keys ,disc lock, battery bolt remover digital tyre gauge, tyre inflators,I think that's it.
2 x 24mm (I think) nuts welded together to slip into the front axle to make it easier to get off...

From Bunnings. We use them to join lengths of threaded bar together. Can't remember the price, cheap! The boss buys them in dozens. Perfect fit and just use a normal ring spanned or socket.

Wera toolkit: http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=2756.msg34321#msg34321
cable ties of different lenght,
few meters of electrical wire,
some soft metal wire,
small roll of duck tape,
turn-signal/side-stand/starter-engine relay: have a theory, what I had engine starting problem because of this relay, so I decide to carry it with me for just in case.
And most important tool - Leatherman Charge TI: carry it almost everywhere with me (only not on planes and when I wear suit :) ) I consider, this is a best tool of all tool's I ever had.
I too own a Leatherman..
Fantastic quality and the blades are almost too sharp.
Mine would be well over £100 in the UK..
I paid the equivalent of £31 when on a blind date in the USA
(Yes seriously)..

was she that frightening Simon? :rofl2:
Seriously the blind date, or seriously, the 31 pound? We don't have pound symbols on our keyboard & I can't remember the ascii number for it. £, ah, there it is, it's Alt156.
Tony, any chance of telling where i find that joiner in bunnings. a code number maybe. much neater than my homemade.

£31 for the Leatherman..
2 bloody good holidays to South bend Indiana..
I met her on a dating website...
She was very nice..
Mum was having open heart surgery (which she kept secret from me so not to "spoul my holiday")..
So I was distracted for some months and Carla moved on thinking I had lost interest....
Then there was an Indian psychiatrist. . .
But thats another story...
S
Speedy...You do know that's gonna cause more questions than your original post? :rofl2:
A leatherman for 31squids? Incredible....
Just shows how much we get diddled when we import stuff.
They really are a superbly made multi tool.
Mine came with a sort of pouch you attach to your belt.. But I hardly use that aspect..
As for the wenches.....
Bikes are cheaper and more reliable...
;)
I picked up a Gerber Multitool a few years ago in a Boxing Day sale at Halfords...Someone priced them at £25...BARGAIN :imrgreen:
I got mine Leatherman somewhere in 2009-2010. It's price in my country was unbelievable for the time - equivalent ~250€. But I manage to get refurbished from USA, for equivalent ~60€ including shipping :boogie:
BTW - they are still expensive ~260€ for titanium version:
https://www.amazon.de/Leatherman-Charge-TTI-Multifunktionswerkzeug-Ledertasche/dp/B01CEMG9GA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1535125030&sr=8-4&keywords=leatherman+charge+tti
But I know, if I ever will loose mine, I will get same (or better) even for 260€
Okay... I've got ask... is it really worth it? Appreciate each to their own but I really can't see the point of buying something like that 'just in case it's needed'.... at least that's what my wife has told me to say :rofl2:
For me - yes. I have it on my belt for 8-9 years, and I'm using it all the time.
My job is technical manager of and don't carry tool box all the time with me, but quite often I see things have to be fixed, and it's esier to do it in 2-3 minutes myself, than send someone from my team to deal with it. Multi-tool helps me with it.
Also in personal life, I'm so used to have tool on my belt, I'm feeling almost uncomfortable, if I do not have it with me.
Northern... that makes perfect sense to me.... :onya: just a very expensive bit of kit to have stored under the seat, especially when there are better tools probably more suited to the 'emergency' repair that might be needed roadside.
I would liken them to handling a very good camera or hifi for the 1st time..
You can feel the difference..
Just found mine.. Its a WAVE

Remember I paid the equivalent of £31 but that was ages ago ..
Bloody hell I just looked at the photos.. It was 2002 !!!
So I suppose that was a heck of a lot more money back then. But as I said earlier they were over £100 in the UK at that time.
Plus I never leave mine under the seat on the bike..
Its either at home or in my pocket.
I will bring to the Scottish meet up to show any who are interested.
Speedy, don't go to the Scottish meet & get yer tool out & start showing it around. They wear kilts up that way & could probably show ya even bigger tools.
Speedy.... don't doubt the quality of the kit mate I know it's top notch, just doubt its value to me. I'd rather spend the dosh on the bike :onya:
I wouldnt (and didnt) pay full price..
I was on a holiday and it was the 1st time in the USA and I thought "what the hell"..
The place I got it from was a "sporting superstore".
I tell you I have never seen so many guns in my life..
The gun section had a counter that must have been over 30 metres in length..
I have always had a fascination with guns..
No I am not a Nutter..
My uncle used to collect old Flintlock weapons..Some were actually gorgeous to look at. I suppose thats what sparked my interest. (Photo)
I recall walking into a Walmart in Florida for the first time about 30 years ago.... everything you could possibly want or need... car tyres, guns boats... you name it they had it. Gobsmacked I was...
@ARH seems we misunderstand each other :)
I'm totally with you, what having expensive multi-tool just to keep it under the seat is total overkill and wasting of money.
Like I write before - mine is always with me, regardless am I with or without bike :hat:
@northern ...All good! :onya: :cheers:
Froudy, how good quality is Gerber. looked at them today. made in china but lifetime wrty. one is $20 bigger $47. Leatherman all over $100. not sure i need one but for 20 bucks, why not.
Gerber is very good, very tough and all blades are changeable quite easily.
