Title: Both wheels off
Post by: Speedy1959 on Wednesday, 08 August 2018, 02:43 PM
Removed both wheels on Tuesday evening ready for the new tyres on Wednesday (today)..
Waiting for the Rock Oil SVI 7.5 to arrive so may leave the front wheel removed until it arrives, as I will need to remove the front forks to replace the oil.
I never feel comfortable with the bike perched on a jack and centre stand so I had a bit of an idea..
I used the socket breaker bar as a temporary rear axle and supported each end with my adjustable axle stands..
I elevated the jack just enough to rock the bike backwards onto the axle stands so its supported on three points.
I also strapped the centre stand to the frame so it cant accidentally get pushed forwards off the stand..

Nice speedy!  Looks good even without wheels!  :salute:

Now, when Lord Barmy sees that rear caliper, he may have a few words for you . . .  :happy1:

Well done Speedy, that'll work.

I'm a big fan of paddock stands, if I didn't have any I'd be buying them before and bling, beer or any non essentials. Both wheels out is easy, as is cleaning, maintainence  and other jobs. You can get a pair for under $100.

Lol Col..
shortly after that photo was taken I did actually clean the rear caliper. .

Tony..
I agree about paddock stands..BUT..
You see the small shed in the background of the first photo?
Well thats my TOTAL storage space for all tools etc..
Unfortunately I really dont have the space to store them.

Good solution to the problem of both wheels off I have something simular a machined bar for going through the axle to lift the bike straight as the blue/white bike has no understand due to the braced swingarm.

Im sure its not approved of but I hang the calipers over the rear of the radiator so they are out of the way for wheel / fork removal.
They are nothing like the weight of car calipers so I cant see the braided lines having an issue...
