That's a disgrace on so many counts, first that the police officer chose to pull the blood bike initially, second that he chose to chase with minors in the car, third that he then chose to complete the call with no authority and fourth that the Devon & Cornwall police chose to prosecute. A totally hostile prosecution as well.

I used to do bloodcruns some years back (not allowed to now) and you choose to be on call for them. You are obliged at all times to ride within the law and safely, even when travelling under blue lights for real emergencies like this clearly was.

An absolute disgrace that this came to court and (so it seems) the policeman got away with it.

Indeed, I've known a few socially & every single one of them has been a petty arsehole with delusions of self-importance.

I agree with you on the first three points, but I think the decision to prosecute might have been quite a useful one.

Reading through the reports, a key part of the argument was whether a blood bike qualifies as a type of ambulance (so that it can carry blue lights and sirens). The Construction and Use regulations are quite vague on the legal definition of what an ambulance is, so it was important to establish whether the biker in this case actually had the right to fit and use them.

Now that the case is settled, that has established a precedent for other blood bikes. Which is a good thing.

Of course that doesn't excuse the behaviour of the officer, he clearly had a grudge and I hope they throw the book at him. But the CPS might have done everyone a favour by bringing the case.

As far as I know the blood bikes are ex-police / ambulance bikes. They are either donated or sold to the charity at the end of there service with the police or ambulance.
Yeah I agree give a tosser a badge he thinks he's god!
