Title: Dropped it
Post by: lil4399 on Friday, 06 July 2018, 10:48 PM
Well it had to happen sometime.

Got the bike out this morning to go on a run this afternoon . Need to take some paperwork to the insurance shop 7kms away so, forget the backbelt I will only be 5 mins.....

Only got to the end of the lane which is a blind junction, stopped, right foot down without looking -onto gravel. Foot dissapeared (me doing the splits) bike on the floor.  :embarrassed:

Got  up staggering over the bike, quickly grabbed the bike and hauled it up - only for my back to go! Bike back on the floor.  :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

Finally got it up (FUCK ME IT'S HEAVY) Slight scratch on the already badly scratched cover, slight scratch on the tank vynal, brake leaver scuffed (luckily not the new ones coming from Seth)

Now hobbling around the house, hopefully I will be ok for bike gathering tommorow.

Bugger- something we will all end doing - wen I did mine I focused on the positive having my tank resprayed - on my first 14 I lay in the road thinking it's got to go so I sold that K3 which was only a year old regretting it ever since so bought this K5 - sooooo heavy  :bugga:

Hope you make a full quick recovery buddy .
.
The bike can be fixed might be worth getting the covers powder coated next winter if the bikes off the road
.

That was the intention anyway so not too upset, more bothered about my back, it's done well since surgery 5 years ago, not in the exact same place so should be ok. The brake leaver was bent anyway hence changing them ;)

Hope your backs going to be okay...I had something similar a couple of years ago, had to drop some paperwork off at our local vets, went inside, heard this crash and my 955i had fallen off the side stand, without thinking instantly went to get it upright...click out goes the back ... forget how heavy and awkward bikes are when they lie down for a sleep!

Bummer!!!   Hope you didn't just 'lug' the bike upright??  You might want to try ice on the affected area and stretch exercises... bloody sore but worked for me when I pulled my back lifting a concrete slab the wrong way!

No "straight back/bent knees" just grab bar end and under seat....

Ice/stretches/anti inflamatries........

There was a post on here a while ago (buggered if I can find it!) with a vid... showed a wee lass who was the size of nothing picking up a dropped Harley.  If I recall correctly she did with her back to the bike... grabbed under the seat and the handlebars and 'walked it backwards' into upright position... I remembered thinking if I ever drop mine (heaven forbid!) that's what I'll do...

I dropped my old k2 years ago fully loaded with camping kit ECT I lifted it up really easily got on and rode home .
After a couple of miles I noticed I was having trouble breathing .
Turns out I'd pulled 3 ribs I was off work for 3 weeks

I did that for real a month or so ago for an older guy who dropped his New BMW GS1200 Adventure..
The only difference was that I put his into 1st gear and then put the side stand down..
1st gear acted as a hand brake..

Poor sod dropped it at a local bike meet up when his wife was getting off the pillion seat..
I was the only one who ran over to help him with righting his bike!!
So much for Biker camaraderie  !

That first gear / handbrake notion is a good idea.  Hope I remember how to do this technique should the need ever arise.

Or Trainer wheels, just in case!

Was a nice day here for mid winter, got to 19 degrees. Got the bike out for a wee spin & fuel up.  Good to be back out there again.

So the secret to all this lifting is to always take a fit young chick with you  :whistling:

Now that sounds like a plan.

Any chance you could have a word with my boss?

The GSX14 is a big old lump to pick up..Came off mine at a junction with a queue of traffic behind me..
I felt every muscle in my body screaming as I picked it up on my own

That technique works, and is a lot easier to do if the bike is on its rhs - as can be seen in the video HOWEVER

in the real world, grip where you will need to 'walk' in will always be sub-optimal.  Mot much like a rubber grip mat at all.

But it's certainly the best technique to use (if you can) from a "not screwing up your back" point of view.

Hope you recover soon lil4399 :)
