When i bought my 14 it had new tyres on it bridgestone bt 016 front and bt 021 rear the back is pretty much gone and ive only put 1100 miles on it ??? :confused1: , i mean i do ride hard now and again but i would have expected more than that out of a cheap china £50er :whatever: so am i riding to hard or just a crap tyre ??
021 is an old tyre thesedays buddy I would be surprised if the compound might have changed with age.
And the roads are covered with granite chips that are very abrasive .
I remember that they did seam to ware very quickly when getting to the end of thier lives as well.
I've just gone past 6500 miles on my current rear Angel by still got plenty of tread yet
I ride on the same roads as you in the same area.
Ye ive been looking at a pair of Angels or the storm 3d x-m but im undecided which to go for as they both have great reviews and are a damn good price for a pair !
I'm pretty sure the pirelli's
Pilot 4/5 and storms are all good .
I've only experience if Angel gt's you'll not go far wrong with any latest tyre but keep well away from sports tyres they are great and sticky but last about 5mins .
I got a sports tyre off a mate a few years ago he'd done 300 miles in it I got a further 800 and that was to canvas(Not that they use canvas anymore but you know what I mean no rubber left)
There's a guy in oldmeldrum or sillets in Aberdeen do bike tyres at very good prices fitted .
No sports for me st's all the way and i think i might try the storms and see how good they are !
Worn out centre or edges?
What psi you running in it?
its worn quite even ... a tad more in the centre and running 36psi , but i think
@seth is probably right on the old rubber comment .
Another + for the Storm here, love them. Gave my 14 a new lease of life they did.
Just out of interest how old is the worn tyre?
There's a 4 digit code on the side wall.
First 2 numbers are the week, 2nd two are the year.
EG: 2311 would be 23rd week of 2011.
I have one bike I bought with an oldish tyre. It's lost some grip but doesn't seem to wear, as if it's hardened. To be fair it's a Contiforce that I never really rated anyway.
Are the new Storms better then? I stopped using them when the Storm 2 Ultra came out as it was crap in the cold/hot/wet/dry, which was a damn shame as the previous Storm GT? was a great tyre.
The new storms 3d x-m are supposed to be night and day compared to the old one with lots of extra wet grip over the older versions and better wear .
looking fwd to review shanered
i will get a set fitted over the next couple of weeks and then let you know what i think of them , but at only £159 a set its not big money if there not brilliant !
No wonder the tyre went fast i checked the date code and it was made in 2008 so it was 10 years old , no wonder it wasn't very inspiring on the road !
