Morning All
New Thread on the 2018 build as we now have a full MOT and its unleashed onto the Streets. This is the finished bike and a few things done listed.. I cant remember them all
One thing I need to do is shout up to @Barmy &
@seth. THANK YOU. your help, advice and assistance has been invaluable and the calming-down too when it was about to become a very expensive BBQ .... My anger button has been pressed on more than one occasion and without your calming words this GSX14 would have been in bits and sold off by now... THANK YOU
1. GSXR750/1000 Brake Lever that's a little trick. Pressure adjustable, flip up and span adjustable
2. SV1000 Callipers, fully refurbished from top to bottom and all bolts and clips replaced with Titanium bolts/fasteners
3. HEL Oil cooler, custom Air Brushed with red HEL Logo and custom made Lines
4. Yoshimura Headers wrapped (I know some of you will frown but they look great in real life)
5. Forks now have K-TECH Adjusters, fully refurbished internals, progressive Springs, new Seals & Fluid. Full rebuild
6. Fork Lowers, Swing Arm, Rear Rests, Fork Brace and Odds-n-sods all powder coated in Blue Chrome (to match wheels)
7. Ohlins Rear Shocks
8. Shot-Gun Undertray (needs painting still)
9. New Bearings front and back
10. MANY bolts, fasteners and bits changed to Titanium, even the rear wheel adjusters !
11. LED "sweeping" Indicators (Like the new Audi ones)
Take a moment to scroll in to the photos, you'll see there is quite some detail and I really think the Blue and yellow came out well. (I didn't think it would but its a grower..)
Sensational job there Stoli, that now gives you a cracking personalised 14, that stands out from the crowd :clapping: :hat:
Awesome John !!! :) :)
Worth it all in the end Stoli, I know its been frustrating at times - especially for you - but absolutely worth it all in the end. Love those yellow calipers really set the wheels and the bike off :onya:
And the good thing now is that $%*&&%&^ alarm has gone do can't screw up riding your pride and joy anymore.....
Enjoy (at last)!
PS: Please do tell me you swapped the rear wheel axle bolt around - the nut goes on the sprocket not the brake side :onya:
Cracking job buddy :clapping:

Indeed it has.. VERY frustrating but its all cool in the end. No more alarm and its put me off for any bike I have.
Within 10 mins of arriving at Wheels Bike Shop Peterborough I came out (not like that) and this guy was asking lots of questions and was a bit bowled over... he has given me his number and said he would like to buy it if I ever want to sell !!
oh bottoms... whaddo I do! my heart says keep but my head, the sensible bit says you simply wont use it and itll sit there gathering dust..
plus, and its a big plus.. with the dosh I could clear the GTR and then move to trade to a 2018 CRF1000 - which im very keen on
damn descisions !

Been there done that Stoli - sold the 14 and bought the Triumph as a result as you know..... :stir:
You've got to do what's right for you - and you do keep saying about the Africa Twin.......
2 things with my old 14. One was from a medical point of view it had to go for me to continue biking (which rather influenced the decision admitedly) but also I think you get to a point where you achieve something with a build - and are looking for the next project. Which is where I think you may be - what next for the 14, or park it in the garage only to come out for shows on a really sunny day....). Decisions - which only you can make bud!
You do know that there never finished :stir:
Before anyone else says are you using milk for oil they look like that when still warming up if you have a window cover or not. :frustrated:
It looks fantastic buddy
Glad to help you through the ups and downs of your build .
Just needs riding and enjoying now .
Very nice work Stoli. Damn fine looking scoota !! :onya:
Looks fantastic Stoli - great job! Still not sure about the pipe wrap tho..... :P

Yep.. Understand fully Barmy.... keeping something and hanging onto it for nostalgia isn't right
I just think its a waste sat there... BUT it causes such a torn viewpoint though. Yes its lovely to have it, I love looking at it and tinkering and some will say "but you've just done all that work..."
The truth of the matter is it HAD to have the front end out and re-jigged. the bottom adjusters were Toast and it would have never passed an MOT. they had leaked fluid and the rubber seals were on the way out / visible when you adjusted them!! it rode like a complete PIG. So a 2003 GSX14 with no MOT, not used for nigh on 2 Years and needing front end work would be worth pennies... and that's without any buyer thinking "well if it needs that what else is needed"
So, work began and me being me - it just snowballed. and then some!
Ive also been spoilt a tad as I have the GTR1400 now too. and once you been on a newer bike it shows the GSX is fankly.. a bit of a tractor. yes yes yes its lovely and that's the point for me and why I have one.. I wanted a big ole wobbly bike with poor brakes and suspect handling. but the key word in that sentence is wanted... 5+ years and 1000's of miles both in the UK and Europe and ive had a HOOT but I just don't get the same Hit now.
Even the GTR14 will be going as its just too bloody fast... or should I say its too EASY to go TOO FAST! ive hit 165mph, 2 up with full luggage on this thing.. EASILY ! ive ridden the GTR14 from Cambridge to Catalunya and taken in Andorra on the way in 1.5 Days flat !
my biking needs now are a comfy and capable Euro tourer that doesn't weigh the same as an Atlantic Liner, and one that doesn't whisper "oi... psst... hey chubbs.. I can do 165 you know in my ear" as Im a dummy for listening!!
It will be a shame and ive some soul searching to do but I wont get all misty eyed, ive had a complete blast on the 14 and its been brill. but as with most things, the person changes but the bike doesn't and one has to give!
im in no hurry though... so lets see what happens. As ive been married 400 years and were at that stage that its fun to pee each other off I may well bring it in the house as a 230kg ornament to oooogle at..
or better still, she told me she would divorce me if I ever got a Harley so I could trade it for a Fat boy and be a single man in a matter of one evening (plus a black eye)
hehehe.. the funs only just starting !

Maybe you should get a new couch. Sorry, I meant a Goldwing :stir:

Bless her. Mrs Stoli puts up with a lot but she gives a lot of abuse too so fairs fair.. I think Kiwi wants a date with her...
Awesome build Stoli, I love seeing something different, purple/White/Yellow really does work beautifully 👍

Based on what I need.. it's the Africa Twin. On looks the GSX but I don't want a looker... I want and need a Euro tourer.
Sigh...
Just saying my gsx1400 has been to Italy and Denmark with most places In between.
You have a fast toured why not keep the one that looks the best while doing it and when folk ask you about your 1 off bike you can say I did this and tell them a story have a beer and make a friend or get the Honda and say it's like every other Honda .
:onya:

I've toured on the GSX extensively Seth bud. For 3 years I did either one or two Europe trips on it.
It's been round the Nurburgring.. it's done Stelvio pass and into Italy...
Heck I rode it from Nice to Cambridge in 24 hrs... 1000 miles in a day..
But that was then. This is now. Needs change bud.
If I sell the GSX, I can then pay off the GTR and have cash spare while getting a CRF.
It's all just thoughts at the moment .. not in a hurry.
I know buddy you get out and ride the bike and see the reaction you get and as you say no rush .
An "iron butt" rider got an Africa Twin from Honda for endurance testing (ongoing since 02/2016) ridden 142.750 km only 2 problems. One wheel bearing at 48k (had to be replaced again since incorrectly fitted) and no-start in the wet due to bad switch at 102k.
You can find his report here: http://www.varahannes.at/afrika%20twin-b.htm (http://www.varahannes.at/afrika%20twin-b.htm) (in German but right-click in browser gets it translated to English. His tire protocols (pdf link on the page) are also worth taking a look at.

Thanks Andre. I'll take a peek.
Early CRF had complaints of a soggy rear shock and poor finish on spoked wheels and some engine parts but as I understand it Honda have been very good at replacing FOC.
If your serious about replacing the 14 you'll need to ride the Honda for a good long run as you could do worse the look at the triumph to I think you might find a twin a bit rough compared to the 4 you've been riding .a triple could be the answer.
I had a go on my mate's gs1200 bmw it's a great bike but the engine seamed so rough due to being a twin .

Lol oops must be the settings on my phone, I'll have a closer look at the BLUE wheels later on the pc 👍
Still looks awesome 😎
What's that blue called Stolli?
It looks the same sort of Purpleish / Blue that my Mrs Mazda is painted in. Mrs reckons it's blue, a friend of hers came round one day and said nice purple colour! They then had a wee handbags at 3 paces over what colour it was  :rofl2:
I think that blue is a special powdercoat finish and requires the parts to be chrome-plated first?
At least that's the system I've seen. Big $$$ but looks awesome esp in the flesh !
Oh and remember the one rule of GSX1400owners.org - even if one gets another bike, one does not leave GSX1400owners.org !

I did briefly consider an F6B.
The cut down, low screen, no top box 1800 flat 6 Goldwing they do in matt black.
Huge barge of a bike, but might be OK as a highway mile muncher without going full-on everything and the kitchen sink Goldwing.
Maybe..... but probably not !

its exactly the same blue as the language im using when I see your post winding me up! VERY BLUE! :rofl2:
and for the record I do not carry a handbag!
It's all about the angle and light I think, as hopefully shown in the zoomed in screen shot from the original photo.
The wheel looks blue, but the swing arm looks purplish (and these are the same colour)
On the other side, when you are just looking at the rear end it looks blue, but if you compare it to the blue on the tank it's totally different, but there are a thousand different shades of every colour.
Either way, I love it & I'm sure it looks stunning in real life. :onya: Stoli

I know the thing you're on about, not 100% sure if mine was the same but my process was.... The parts are dipped or stripped or blasted of any other finish or contaminant, then powder coated in chrome, then a dusting of blue (not purple!!) and then a shed load of lacquer - you can denote the shade of blue and depth by the amount of blue and lacquer and you build it up and up and then bake.. here are 2 pikes of the wheels back in the day being done...

Correct Sweaty - it depends on the angle you look at and the light. One of the reasons I chose it as it changes whatever way you look. As with most things a photo doesn't really show it fully...
The Yellow also makes it really pop the blue out
The wheels look amazing in those last shots Stoli.
Now coat all the amazing powder coated parts in plastic & don't bloody get any stone chips in them  ;)

"Very Blue" it is then. Hence forth the colour of this bike will be known as "Stoli Very Blue" and let no man cast aspersions of it being anything else. Amen!

So, Stoli is a Vodka? Thought is was some sort of European beer or the likes.
@Stolichnaya What do you have it with? Coke?, Orange?, Ice? Straight?
I think you can only drink it with a mixer of blueberry juice :stir:

This means something completely different to me. !!! I had to chuckle
Kiwi. A bean can be a certain pArt of a young ladies anatomy!! As in flicking the bean....
So unleashing it... well erm.... I don't gave one to unleash!!!
Things get confused in intercontinental transmissions apparently. I thought yer missus was affectionately known as Bean? n being somewhat prone to 'setting things straight' I thought perhaps you could enlist her assistance.

You are indeed correct young man. The wife is called Bean. She's tall and German and generally... I'd say angry and prone to using choice language.. doesn't even hide it by talking in her native language which I'd ShoutingordersGerman.
However ... unleashing the bean would mean me asking her something that would produce a black eye and some form of invasion that would see me incapacitated for a while.
Heck... I didn't even ask that on me wedding nite !!!
