Waitangi Day here so its a public holiday. Seeing as it was too hot to be riding yesterday we got up early this morning and headed off for a bit of a ride. Had a great day, found some really nice roads and clocked up another 370kms. Excellent way to finish the long weekend.
thats just.. showing off
Nice :onya:
Very nice
Where'd ya go Col? a loop naturally, Tauranga to . . . I don't recognize that dam / outlet.
Did a bit of a roadie myself on the Saturday, took the cage though. Did 925k's, CHC, Greymouth, Coast road to Karamea & end of sealed road, back through Westport & Reefton to Springs Junction & Lewis Pass to Kaikoura via inland road.
Have you heard of the TT2000? 2000k in 2 days. Thought I might have a crack at that, have to do some big days as training first though, after driving for 925k I don't know I'd be able to do that on my bike, let alone do it all again the next day and then some.
Jeez, that TT2000 is a hell of an endurance ride. It's NOT a race though.
What the hell were you doing traveling 925k's in the car Col ?? There's not a lot at Karamea.
Went from home to Rotorua, Atiamuri, Mangakino, across to Otorohanga then up to Kihikihi, Arapuni, Tirau, then over the Kaimai's and home. Weird weather though, left home in bright sunshine, got to Rotorua and the cloud was down, it was cold, had to keep wiping the visor. Then about an hour later it was back to being stinking hot. The dam was just out of Mangakino. Excellent roads and not much traffic. Good riding, saw a few bikes.
Mate the TT2000 is a bit much for me. I did 730k's early in January, home to Whangarei and back. The traffic north of Auckland was nuts.
Just a roadie Col, I like traveling & if Mrs Col is coming, the cage it is. She only lasts about 1½ hrs on the back & then is reluctant to get back on for anymore that day.
Think I'll have to shelve the TT2000 idea myself - meantime anyway.
I'm looking at doing a ride at the end of the month - after I finish work & have done my chores / repairs to my vehicles.
Looking at MT Cook, Lindis Pass, Glenorchy then back via Haast Pass & the coast rd to Kumara & Arthurs Pass to home. Depends on weather at the time - I'll be doing it for fun & it's no fun setting out in rain for a week.
Prob take 3 - 4 days over it.
i would love to live in a country that give you nice weather all year round .. it must be nice to have it like you do :onya:
Not really nice weather in Wellington .. barely been on my bike in the last 3 weeks, continuous cycle of gale force winds and rain with the odd fine day .. but still windy as hell. And summer is done in 3 weeks, not that it actually arrived here!!
I`m rather envious Kiwifruit!!

We are pretty lucky most of the time in NZ. In the upper half of the North Island you can ride pretty comfortably all year round. You do have to dress up warm in winter. We get a few frosts in Tauranga, but don't get snow.
Something to watch out for here, especially this time of year is rain. Don't get me wrong I ride in rain no problem. The problem can be when we have had no rain for 6 weeks or more then get a shower of rain you can in places see the oil beading on the road. Had a slide a couple of weeks back, signs said 'slippery when wet' so I made sure I was careful. We slid, so if I hadn't been cautious I think we could have grazed it. In the summer when its hot we get a lot of 'tar bleed' which can be very slippery too.
I enjoy my bike and yes we are pretty spoilt here really.

Hey how you doing.
Nice to have another Kiwi on here. See quite a few 14's on the road but not many here. Be good to get a few more and then we could have our own gatherings.
Yeah sorry about Wellington.....though each time we've been there its been lovely.
That sounds like a pretty good road trip Col.

Beautiful day yesterday ... too busy to do anything about it ..
Nothing much on today .. but gale force north westerlies all day again, and rain in the forecast next couple of days .. sucks :(
