Title: Garage floor paint
Post by: Notty on Saturday, 19 May 2018, 02:47 AM
Had a big tidy out and can now see the garage floor !! so thought good idea to paint it but remember reading that some paints are too soft and side stand sinks in with the weight? Any recommendations ?  :)

No paint for me Notty, get one of those industrial rubber backed mats. No slipping, easy to Jet Wash if required & keeps the tyres nice n cosy, 'blanket' over the top & she's all tucked up.

I restored cars for 30 years and always had my garage floors painted. I always used a two pack epoxy paint. Bloody hard stuff and available in a variety of colours.

The other option is to use a standard paint but bolt a solid board to the floor where you normally park it, and use another piece when working elsewhere. (I used to tack carpet to the board and screw it to the walls of the garage so I could park the cars closer to the wall and get more in whilst not damaging the door when getting in/out)

Also with the Harley I had a plastic foot stand that I could use and take with me to shows to stop it sinking on grass.  :)

Everyone is allowed one mistake if they own up to it. I thought I was old enough, but at 50, I was 49 years too early.  :P

I used some grey stuff that a guy at work gave me..Proper floor paint.
I cant remember the make but it worked well and I never had any problems with anything sinking into it. It does make the floor quite slippery though. The bonus is that it stops the concrete dust.

I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I carpeted mine! I'd tried a Garage floor paint which looked good for about a week, but despite preparing the screed the stuff just seemed to peel up onto warm bike tyres. Stands digging is were not an issue.

The old one from the lounge was hacked to shape and laid down. I don't do much heavy work on my bikes as I don't have the skill or the time, so it does not get too grubby and is kinder to ancient knees when doing bits and pieces.

As I work for a maintenance contractor my colleagues are on the look out now for a replacement for me and many of the pubs that we refurbish frequently have a perfectly serviceable one ripped out during refits.

My garage could well end up looking like a Harvester or Ember Inn though....

Painted mine for years now. Light battleship grey.

My 14 sleeps on a sheet of 6x3 of plywood, carpet and two bike mats alongside. All floor is painted. Great for keeping dust down. Dunno what make I use. I just pop to a paint suppliers in town. And they make it up for me.

Other side of garage where car sleeps. I got two big 2x3 doormats. Chopped them in half. They go where the car wheels are. Keeps it all looking nice.

Nah, nothing wrong with the sawdust yet, it'll last another summer.

As Im in the car hole a lot I have a soft flooring - usually get it for about £10.00 a pack (4 to do garage) - it great stuff dropped a fair few things on it and no damage, but have some alloy checker plate that I park the bikes on
