Title: new members no posts??
Post by: ARH on Friday, 04 May 2018, 01:18 AM
I just had a look and saw we have over 900 members  :boogie2:   but then saw that around 500 or so have never posted ... not even a hello  :whatever:

I wondered if we should consider deleting a members account after 6 months or so if there are still zero posts since joining?   Understand some might just want to trawl through the great info we have amassed, and its not everybody's bag to use forums like this to chat or post some of the inane drivel we do  :whistling: ....but I really don't get the point of joining a forum and not even saying hello.... at least that would be polite

Are there some sections that are only open to members?  If so I get it but if not I don't see the point of joining and not posting.

The folk that join and don't ever post just come here to get information nearly as bad as the folk who's first post is to try and sell something or ask a question that has a very comprehensive answer if they'd bother to explore the forum they just joined.
:frustrated:

We've discussed this between the admin team as to whether to cull those with zero posts or not and decided not to. On any forum there is always a reasonably high percentage who come purely for the info and nothing else. We can't force them to join in, and strangely some do post after quite some time, but like to get the lie of the land. So we decided to let those "sleepers" sty as forum members. Maybe one day they may post, who knows? At some stage they will need assistance  :onya:

Yep, what Barmy said.  I'd rather have people join, even if they don't wish to post.  At least it makes them more likely to see what pops up. As members they can subscribe to threads of interest, something they can't do as guests.

Also I think that the downloads section is only accessible to members.  I think.

For any "zero post" members reading this thread - you are welcome to stay, please do.

I joined the old org before I got my 14 as I wanted to research them and read the "for and against" but never posted until much later.
I too would like to see more members join in. I cannot believe that the two Col's are the only Kiwis. Surely there must be more Col's in NZ that ride 14's ?  :onya:

Kakapo Col's.

I just tried to search the member list to bring up all the Kiwi's registered.  The position search function doesn't work. Can't filter by country, tried Australia as well, came up no members.

I know there are a few in NZ as members, but they don't post often.  Must be Facebook people or just aren't that keen on sharing & comradery.

It's the 'quality' of Col's that counts and we clearly have the best 2

It'd be interesting to see what the most common Name for 14'ers is?  and what's the most densely populated geographical area?  (seems a lot of 'sweaties' on here)  :stir:
Are there any under 50's etc

2x nz col's are enough  :onya:

It would be interesting to do a place by place comparison.

I'm 50 so is that over or just getting there  :stir:

Best place to have any bike is where the best roads are  :boogie: :boogie2: :wheelie:

Im with the admins leave the 0 posters to do as they do - I would rather they joined a sensible knowledgeable forum to get answers (albeit searched or asked) than post on a Facebook page.
There are far too many utterly utterly lazy effers on facebook that ask the dumbest questions cause there too dim to actually look for an answer themselves - far to easy

thats me off my soapbox . . . . . . . . Del

That's an interesting idea Red. I'm quietly confident that I'm the only Forum Member with my name, but I am well under 50.

Haha.......91 is $1.97.9 in Tauranga and Auckland is getting an 11.5c per litre fuel tax soon so guess we will all get that soon enough.
Mate of mine used to live in Padstow, cycled to Hornsby every day for work.
Enjoy the cheap fuel.

Padstow to Hornsby is about 30kms. Probably faster on a bike than a car during the morning peak.

Regional fuel tax! What a dense, short sighted, imbecilic, solution. It's ok for pollies, they get free fuel.

You might want this link then.

Best way is via the member map.  It relies, of course, upon people popping their approximate location in there. But when they do it's very handy to see how many are where...
