I know it's "Another bloody oil" post, but has anyone tried this stuff?
I've been using Motul 5000 4T semi synthetic for a few years now and have noticed that gear changes are particularly "Notchy" at times. Some of the guys on the Bandit Forum have said the same thing when using it.
One of the lads has just tried Smith & Allan oil and reckons it's totally transformed the gear changes to silky smooth.
I'm going to give it a go next oil change and see what happens.

It's very cheap too at £8.46 for 5 Litres!!
Just ordered 2x5 Litres to try it out. £28.64 inc. delivery.
I'll report back when I do the next oil change :onya:
Froudy, i tested lots of oils, all posted on old forum, waste of my time as now all lost. i did it as a service to you blokes, 14 riders. i just enjoyed doing it. i know changing brands not the the thing to do but i did. im sure wont hurt my motor. never ever heard of oil youre promoting. not here in oz. i tried valvoline, silkolene, castrol, penrite, gulf western, motul, shell. only diff. was slight cam chain noise from some early morning start and gearchange smoothness. only thing i can go by. most were very similar. shell expensive, no gain. silkolene was a pain as a 4 litre bottle. worst by far, chain noise&gearchange was motul. made in asia. was dearest also. by far the best, cheapest also was good old oz made gulf western synnex 3000. guess thats why they are the fave suppliers for mining sites in oz. 5l of motul is around 100 bucks, 5l of synnex is around 25. was 18 last week on special. no brainer.
Was reading the same post yesterday on the Bandit page and did the same as you and ordered some - we can only wait and see but at the money would be rude not to try
Del
@grog I remember you doing the oil tests on the original Org..Shame they all got lost
Over in the UK Motul 5000 4T is one of the cheaper oils at approx £27 for 5 Litres. It usually comes as a 4 litre plus a 1 litre bottle.
I'll give this Smith & Allan a go and see how it compares...It's certainly cheap. If you collect it in person it's only £8.46 for 5 litres :boogie:
@Del Let us know how you get on with it as well..We'll compare notes :imrgreen:
I used to use the Motul 5100 and not only was the gear change bad but the bike seemed "Buzzy"..
At the moment I have the Halfords semi synthetic in...
Certainly better than Motul.
I wouldnt mind trying that Ozzy stuff but I dont think its available in the UK.
I bought a 25ltr tub of the stuff a couple of years ago after a long chat with the firm and found out it's new oil not recycled and for the price is exceptional value. Have used it in all the bikes and it's spot on. Had been using Halfords oil for years before but this is just as good and costs less. I will run out soon so will be buying another 25ltr tub of the stuff later on or early next year.
@mjgt That sounds encouraging...Looking forward to giving it a go :onya:
Just this minute ordered 5 litres of the Smith & Allen..
Thanks for the heads up Froudy.
Have said this before but its worth repeating because Grog has a good laugh at my expense.
Used to use Motul 5100, not happy, quite notchy. OK l'll go for the good stuff so about $140+ later in goes Motul 300V. Could'nt wait to get rid of it.
Been using Gulf Western for a while now. : :boogie:
I looked on the website and it says 5 litres is £8.46 ... but 20 litres is £40.97.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you buy 4 lots of 5 litres you'll have 20 litres of oil ... for £33.84.
So who would buy the 20 litre option?
:confused1:
Worth giving them a call to point it out you might get a really good deal .
Not always the case of buying in bulk and saving money...Supermarkets are good at doing this as well.
The bigger box of Crunchy Nut cornflakes isn't always the best deal
I'm mot aloud crunchy nut cornflakes anymore
while I was on I got 25 litre of thinners - 27.15 compared to 9.95 for 5 litres - decent as well not the usual gun wash for that money

Prices include VAT, but postage is on top..So buying 4x5 litre containers does work out £7.13 cheaper.
I've just done an oil and filter change so will report back if there is an improvement or not in gear changes when I ride it next week :onya:
Right then..
Having done a couple of hundred miles now with the new oil, I can confirm that the gear changes are a lot smoother than they were with the Motul oil.
It's a third of the cost too which is a bonus. I think I'll be using it from now on and see how it goes.
Very encouraging as I've just put some in after replacing my timing cover. Not ridden her yet but looking forward to a blast tomorrow maybe.
