Brought a new small wheel base trolley jack which was on offer, 2 ton lift capacity.
I have a rear paddock stand and the idea was to get the rear up on the stand and then jack the bike up via trolley jack on the sump. I made a piece of wood to fit across the bottom of the sump between the exhaust pipes, I even cut a groove to fit around the sump plug.
Bike up on rear paddock stand. I start to jack up the sump and the rear of bike starts to lift off the paddock stand and the front wheel is still on the ground.
Am I doing something wrong here lol ?????
I just wanted the front wheel off the ground. Im surprised because the sump is forward of the centre of the bike.
Hi Fella I use one of these kind of scissor jack things - I have a couple of old pistons that Ive stuck thick rubber on them so I dont mark up the frame - had it up in the air (with the rear paddock stand) for weeks and never been an issue with stability and Ive practically stripped the bike
Oh and there not expensive
Unfortunately, even though the sump is forward of the center of the bike, it's still rear of the center of gravity. The heaviest component by a long shot is the engine, and the majority of the engine sits in front of the sump (Cylinder block, pistons, cams etc). That and the weight of the forks. front wheel, fuel tank (with fuel) plus plenty of other things means your'e onto a losing battle. If you have lighter aftermarket exhausts it's even worse. Looks like you might have to invest in a front paddock stand.
I have used a ratchet strap system to lift the front with my garage roof beams before but I wouldn't recommend that (VERY unstable). Your'e better off spending 30 quid on a cheap stand.
EDIT - Or use Dels approach and lift from as far forward on the frame as possible (still not guaranteed if you've removed the standard cans). Still rather get a front paddock stand though.
Centre stand and a car axle stands, one either side on the frame rails.
Photo of my son's Bandit 600 done using the same method...
Yep Froudy, no problem when your 14 still has a main stand. I have no problems with a very simple jack put in front of the sump plug (with a fitting piece of wood between). Standard K2 exhaust system helps with that as well.
I use paddock stand at rear & block of wood (fence post), 2 scissor jacks & support under frame rails.
Mainstand and jack works for me :onya:
another reason i keep centrestand. jack/wood under, both wheels up. just easy.
Hi i have an abba stand these are execllent for get both wheels off the floor or front only /resr only i.ll try and add a pic if i can im not sure how to do that
@Latty66 Welcome to the forum :hat:

I treated myself to an Abba skylift, that can do the swing arm removal as well. There's an optional kit that bolts into the footrest hangers. I haven't tried it out yet but the rest of the kit is top quality so I have no doubt it'll work.
Ive used my ABBA stand to remove the swingarm - just need a set of bobbins that go into the rearset bolt and hey presto

Same here, was super stable and able to change out front wheel brake rotors easily.
Thanks for the info and input.
Although I think they are great, I don't want an Abba stand, I have Renntec bars and I don't want to remove them every time I need to jack up. Theres no centre stand on the bike.
I already have a rear paddock stand, so makes sense to me to just get a new front paddock stand. Any reccomendations please ?? bearing in mind that the front forks are painted.
Look at the Biketec headstock stand, you'll need a 21mm pin for it (to fit in the headstock) as well

I used to have one of those but found it was in the way just enough to become annoying. Very much so for working around the front wheel and brakes. Unfortunately, with this design you can't do a complete strip/rebuild of the front end for things as simple as greasing the steering head bearings and you still have to resort to other methods of lifting the front.
I will say though, it was so much better than a traditional front paddock stand that lifts from the fork lowers. Those things are even more restricting
