my next door neighbours, two unreal people. they took custody of two grandkids. mother a useless jailbird/heroin addict. planned that at nearly retiring age they would go another 10 yrs to set these kids up. totally brave and amazing decision. the 13 year old girl has disappeared. not seen since last saturday. all over facebook/newspapers. no clues. ill have to go over and see them, what do i say. no idea. imagine how they are, im totally rocked. tough gig this life thing sometimes.

That is a tough one Grog.  All ya can do is hope the girl is found ok & hasn't got herself into 'stuff' way beyond her years.  Teenage girls can be more 'trouble' than boys for obvious reasons.  They don't realise it's their whole life they're gambling with.
Sometimes, no matter how much you try & help someone, if they don't want help or don't see a problem, there just isn't anyway of helping them. 
Hope for their sake & the young girls',  it all works out ok.

grog just say that you are there if they ever need a chat or a beer / coffee/ whatever.

You are very unlikely to say anything wrong.  What's much worse for people is when they are avoided because people are uncomfortable and don't know what to say to them.

Such sad news I hope it turns out OK in the end.
