I put a private plate on my bike , then tried to tax the bike with new reg , I have been told by dvla to put the reg on my bike but when I go into the system to tax it dvla does not recognise the reg , what the hell is going on , YOU LOT TOLD ME TO FIT THE NEW REG now the stupid computer system you have can't find the vehicle it's assigned to , I'll be using it Tuesday taxed or not your fault !!!! I'm wasting no more time with this stupid way of taxing a bike catch me if you can I wish you luck
This is the feedback I posted to dvla
So when you put the reg on your bike did you complete the registration transfer form?
I'd say if you use it Tuesday without tax, then more fool you, if you have an accident you won't be insured and will get a criminal record. Saying that DVLA told you to put the reg on and then could not find it it absolutely no excuse in a court of law. It your responsibility thus until you can sort the reg transfer perhaps you should use your old plate.
Without being taxed you are driving illegally and putting others at risk as well as putting yourself at risk of getting a criminal record. Is that really what you want?
You'd be far better off ringing DVLA first thing Tuesday to sort it IMO
Obviously very bloody frustrating, but Dave is spot on. Don't risk it, as it could be a life changing decision if things go wrong.
I'll use old plate dvla don't recognise that either lol
Can't Nick me if they can't find me !!!!! Neither number is not recognised
You not seeing for funny side of this are you
I'll get my other bike out that's tax tested and insured
I have never been done for anything not even a parking ticked speeding fine or a tiny number plate
Can you say the same ?
Yes I can say the same that I have never been done for any offence.
And whilst I understand it to be frustrating, I'm sorry to say that I can't see the funny side having had a good mate knocked down and killed by an uninsured driver some years back. So perhaps you'll understand why those who use the road illegally make my blood boil.
I do hope though that DVLA sort it soon as I agree that their systems are shambolic at best.
Now your starting to understand my gripe
there was an update to the VLA yesterday as there were new taxation codes for vehicles so may be something to do with that as teh DVLA's systems like HMRC's arent the best or most up to date
I did a plate transfer via teh dvla website about a year ago with no issues at all
Hope you get it sorted out fella
Ring the DVLA Tuesday - tell them you love sheep and have a Welsh mate !! seriously you will get caught if you ride it sods law ! too many cameras in this part of the world to get anywhere without getting spotted :bugga:
That's my point Notty how can they send me a fine when the computer does not recognise the number WHAT THEY HAVE ISSUED nor does the computer recognise my old reg as they have issued a new number to that vehicle, so no matter how many cameras I go past on the back wheel with my arse on fire they have no idea where to send the fine. So could get away with it
On a serious note I would never ride illegally, it just goes to show how f***ed up this system is, so will ring dvla ( might mention the sheep if it helps) tomorrow and visit the good old post office to get it sorted, at the moment though it's not fit for man nor beast outside.
get it fixed mate. not just about the camera thing. calm down, do it right. no other way. we all hate the system but it will always win. your way, unregistered, so many things to go wrong.

Because messed up as their system may be, somewhere in its muddled mind it has your details and date of transfer, so could eventually catch up (arguably) and you'll have the local boys in blue knocking on your door.
It was bad enough doing private plate transfers when you could do them at your local County Hall (some years back), I gave up and sold the private plate on my car when I had transfer issues last time after they centralized it in Swansea and just go with whatever the reg on the car is now, much less stressful
It's not good you are having all these problems with the DVLA but I have to say I've never had a problem with the system, I SORN two bikes each year, tax my other bikes, re-tax the ones on SORN and do my car, all online with no drama. Taxed my beemer in under 5 mins and went out for a ride yesterday, no problem.
This happened to me once. I've an habit of moving a couple of plates between bikes and cars. Chill. Call 'em first thing Tuesday morning - be prepared to queue. It will get sorted. Decent enough people.
Recently on a similar topic. I've had a letter saying my 14 was not insured on the MID. Turns out insurer did not pass on renewal details. That's a difficult one to explain if you get a tug. Who carries insurance papers on their bike? I don't.
Insurance old be less of a problem for me as it's in emails on m phone
But we pay these people money to get it right , if we do our jobs badly we would be out but gov agency's just do what they want

I'm with Dave, it's easy to get angry at faceless authority but it's also pointless because they hold all the cards. Anyway it's not like they have personally singled you out, it's just a system and like any other system it's not 100% perfect.
One point about tax though - my understanding is that driving without tax (or more accurately Vehicle Excise Duty) is a civil offence, not a criminal offence. You get a fine if you get caught but you don't get points on your licence. I would also suggest that you would be insured if you had a smash and everything else was OK with your vehicle (MOT and all that). Don't take my word for it though.
Anyway the main thing here isn't the tax, it's the registration plate. Driving with the wrong one is a really serious issue and in that case all bets are off if you get pulled or have an incident. Better to cool your jets and sort it out with DVLA tomorrow, like others have said.
That's the bit that's so frustrating I have te plate on the bike they told me to put on
The law is civil if I did go out a copper can only report my for no tax he can't give me a fine it's up to dvla to fine me and pursue back duty but it was sarn to Saturday so they can only chase for April and if I taxed it nothing to pursue - not worth chasing but I'm not riding they just need to get it together computers should get it right
This is what they told me to do
OK. Having seen the date you made the transfer, what you might want to try is taxing again in the morning before calling DVLA.
Reason I say that is that similar to banks, some systems don't update over Bank Holiday periods (as there is no-one on a Bank Holiday to check that the job has run properly or not), so it may well be that the transaction has gone through but has not (yet) replicated across the various systems. Likelihood is that that run to replicate would be tonight, so would show first thing tomorrow.
Just a possibility that's all.
I'll give that a try ,

she is looking good Paul :)
Cheers mr N
Lovely looking bike Paul
An unfortunate thing I don't think the time of year with the holidays has helped you.
Even tho it's all computerised they still need a human to work it and most take holidays so problems don't get sorted out .It's very flustrating I'm sure .
hopefully you'll get a good summer out on your bike
Cheers Seth , I'm itching to get on it I only rode it back from Basingstoke and that was crap because it handled so bad
And 4 miles to mot station where it rode beautifully
I'll be on phone first thing in morning I'll be on it tomorrow one way or another
RIP carpet up keep riding round mrs Ms living room and she chases me with a broom lol
No such issues here - no road fund licence (or mot for bikes) :stir:

So - it was a question of systems not having replicated then? Or did you have to call DVLA?
Called dvla the plate that they said they had assigned as in the picture, they had not actually assigned .the old reg that was on my bike they removed that from the vehicle database to assign the new plate which they didn't do. So effectively the last 6 days the bike has had no identity, the bike is now taxed for one year however all agency computers will not update for up to five days and could get stopped many times until it is, but woman at dvla says it is taxed. At least before you had a piece of paper to display that proved it was taxed, some times progress doesn't work quickly enough..
Relieved that it's all sorted now and I can go and enjoy the fruits of all the hard work that has been put in to it before taking it out to play.
One of the members on the Bandit Forum got pulled yesterday for riding his bike while SORN'd...He was very lucky and got sent on his way after taxing it in front of the Police officer. He just got a bollocking and told NEVER to do it again.
I'd say a VERY lucky escape.

Yup...It's just a "slip on" and clamp :onya:
I agree, however I would put a bit of clear bathroom sealant on the collector pipe joint before slipping it on, as that will make a perfect seal (no leaks). If you subsequently take the muffler off, just wipe a cloth around the joint and it all just peels off dead easy so you can re-seal it when re-assembling
