Title: gauge on E..
Post by: PWM on Saturday, 24 March 2018, 06:47 AM
Shocks repaired and preload working, all good there..

I hope my last issue to sort on this bike is the fuel gauge always reading E/flashing.
I'm wondering, are there any known bugs with this. Obviously, first thing i've checked are the connections,
cleaned them all up, lubricated etc.. appears so far no broken wires.

Do the floats on these things have a habit of jamming up? or are there some contacts inside that could get
crudded up?

Sure, the next job is to pull it out and look, but thought I'd ask first..

That's not something I've heard of happening, but, it's an easy job to remove the tank, turn upside down & unscrew the sender unit. There are 2 bits screwed to the tank, 1 is the fuel pump & the other is the sender unit.
I've not taken out my sender, but have taken the pump out. Nothing daunting & easy fit back up. Gaskets can be reused - bit of rubber grease on the o ring, but not always necessary.

Your sender may be gunked up & not able to move, or it's got a leak & it doesn't float anymore.  Clean her up or seal the leak?

Yes, I'm sure I can manage taking the tank off ( again ) on a bike I've pretty much had to rebuild, weld, drill n tap, helicoil, rewire.... :D.  I'll whip it out, tank looked clean enough when I stuck a inspection cam in there, but yeah sender could be crudded..  I just like to ask for any known gremlins, never know what turns up.

As said remove the sender it's as easy as then plug in the sender and see if the fuel gauge moves when you move the arm of the sender.
Or check the resistance on the sender with a meter it should change when the sender arm is moved .
Hopefully nothing serious.

If the tank looks clean, reckon it'll be a connection come undone under there.
