Title: Bike tax
Post by: Mick_J on Friday, 02 March 2018, 08:56 PM
I had to pay £85 today to tax my MZ.  There is 8" of snow on the ground and I still have to pay not to use the road, sun better come out soon.  A couple of years ago I left it for a week or 10 days before taxing the bike and got fined for not having a taxed vehicle and not declaring SORN  :furious: Why can't they just add some money to fuel and not bother with tax, if you use petrol of diesel you pay would stop a lot of tax dodgers and the more you use the more you pay, how fair is that.

Best option there would have been to SORN it and then tax it in say a months time..Hopefully by then the weather will have improved a bit :onya:
The extra tax on fuel though would be a fairer way of doing though, as long as you don't use huge amounts. You'd then be basically taxed for road usage according to miles covered.

I have my tiger taxed all winter and the 14 taxed all summer so im covered with something to ride all year , but the tax is a bloody rip off for a bike when you think some small cars are less than £50 a year ????

1st of march has been declared to be the beginning of spring by the UN (WMO) for statistical purposes only.

Begin of spring is when day and night are equal for the first time of the year (northern hemisphere). That will be 20th march this year.

Most of the cost of fuel is tax already, no need to add more. Knowing how badly everything is run in the public sector I'm sure scrapping road tax would save more money than the loss of income.

Same here. About 1 € tax by a total of 1.40 on the liter. BTW, mandatory insurance is less than I have to pay on additional tax on the bike.
