Title: Ignition failure...
Post by: black14 on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 06:46 PM
Hi guys,

Stopped at a mates place on the way home from work tonight. Started bike up to leave and as I was turning around engine cut out - oil light and FI light on dash. Happened about 3 times then bike ran normally until I got home. Left bike idling on the side stand while I opened garage door. Whilst pushing bike into garage engine stopped again - no lights on dash. Now no lights on dash when I turn the key to On.

I've checked Main fuse, Ignition fuse, battery connections right hand switch block - just no power.

Any suggestions appreciated - I was supposed to be going away first thing tomorrow morning...

Thanks!

Seems like there are times when earths give trouble. Might be worth a lòok.

Good idea to check the earth like fruity says.
Go to a battery service and have it tested. If it is not broken check the generator.

I had the same problem when my fuel pump was dying.

Battery is fine.
Yes I've a meter.
Found one issue - red wire to ignition switch corroded through in headlight shell.
Now have power to the dash - but fuel pump not kicking in and no starter power.
Need to check the code now...

Bridge Black/white and Red/white - no code - still says Check - K7...

check is a general code: side stand or kill switch are the most common suspects

Ok - thanks for all your help.

After spending quite some time - tank off, tank on, ferreting around in the headlight more, etc. etc. I pulled the fuel pump relay to find some dodgy terminals. Cleaned up and spray with switch cleaner and all good. :clapping:
Until I put it back together... :furious:

Pulled relay again and had another go - seems to have sorted it this time.  :onya:

So now I can head out in the morning up to Tamworth for a quick spin!!!

:boogie:

Actually, by the route we're taking Tamworth is about 1400kms so planning on around 800kms (highway avoiding route) tomorrow and the rest Friday.

Yes indeed mate - VJMC Rally it was - and a great turnout and great weather too!!
Headed out via Yea, Mansfield, Whitfield, Beechworth, Ebden, on via the Murray River Rd to Jingellic, Tumbarumba to Tumut, Gundagai, Jugiong then via Harden and Boorowa to Crookwell for the night.
Next morning on to Bathurst via Tuena and Trunkey Creek - an awesome road with tight switchbacks to open sweepers and some excellent scenery - quick lap of the track then on to Bylong via Sofala, Ilford, Kandos. Through to Sandy Hollow then back roads to Scone and highway on to Tamworth.
Back via a longer route through Dongowan to Barrington, Gloucester, Stroud Hill, Dongog and Gresford to Singleton - many great roads in this stretch too. On to Musswellbrook and then return via Bylong Valley Way and the same route as the way up back to Boorowa for the night.
On to Harden then Cootamundra and Junee to Wagga Wagga then highway avoidance again to Hollbrook via Mangoplah. Through to Jingellic then Tallangatta, Mitta Mitta and Omeo - I had forgotten how long that 108 km stretch is - and on to Bruthen for the night.
Home before lunchtime the next day with more highway avoidance from Bairnsdale via Bengworden to Stratford, Maffra, Heyfield, Willow Grove, Noojee and Powelltown to home.
1350 kms on the way up and 1870 kms on the way back - and the 1400 with 209k kms up (now!) didn't miss a beat - great trip and some fantastic roads and views, not to mention pubs and people along the way!!!
Obligatory picture at Bathurst track attached - oh, and one of the wire that nearly prevented deparature!!
