Title: Fuel cap fixing
Post by: Notty on Monday, 12 February 2018, 06:28 AM
Stupid question perhaps sorry - I ordered a new fuel cap but when it arrived it was the wrong one - seems the supplier has packed the boxes incorrectly - He is asking how many fixing and dummy holes - I know its 7 in total but as my tank is away being repaired and painted so can't double check  :smile2:

only 4 of the bolts actually hold the fuelcap to the tank
bottom left , top left , bottom right and top right .
or 10 to 10 and 20 past 7
hope that makes sense.
so the one in the lower picture the blank without a bolt hole is towards you when sitting on the seat.
and in the top picture one at each corner as ive tried to explain about .

Bugger - seems WizBiz had a delivery of new tank caps marked as for the 14 but wrong ones inside all their stock so now gotta wait for a refund  :bugga: :bugga: :bugga: should have gone for Oberon but twice the price - hey ho you live and learn  :)

info on fuel cap removal
1st pic is fuel cap
2nd pic is the 4 fixing bolts removed ( the other 3 bolts in the cap are just for looks and do nothing to hold/fix the cap to the tank) and filler open as this also locks the cap to the tank.
3rd pic is cap removed showing the 3 dummy bolts (white marked)still in place (these bolts can be replaced as are just bolts but only long enough to go into the cap ring)and the (black marked fixing bolt holes).
4th pic shows the bolt holes in the tank (these are where you also attatch an aftermarket fuel cap such as orberon parts )
