Good ones - I knew most of them but "Bottle-O" and "Esky" were surprises. I guess "Bottle-O" is like a British off-licence.

The Boat People are white. Hang on I'll clarify that, 200 years ago the Boat People were white. Now the Boat People aren't white there seems to be an issue with Boat People.

Yeah, probably is, but, it (the country) wouldn't of been called Australia then, was more likely called something completely different & unpronounceable (by us lot) by the said 'locals'.

Well, appears I was wrong (no surprises there if you ask the Mrs) about the 'locals' having their own unpronounceable name for Aussie.

Quote:  "  The Walpirri language of central Australia consists of less than 1000 words. I say this to give you an idea how limited or primitive their language was and similarly, their understanding of the land on which they lived. Those on the coast had no idea there was a desert in the middle and visa versa.
I have also read the same in a number of writings from early anthropologists that they had no name for Australia, as their was no knowledge of any other country to cause them to name the one on which they lived. "

So there ya have it.
