Hi everyone,
I have just bought my 2009 gsx1400. Loving every minute of it. Just after some advice, when I'm changing from first to second gear it's pretty clunky.
Espeaclity when the bike is warmed up. Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop this?

from the north east of scotland.
where are you ?
have a good look around as loads of info here .
to help with your gear selection problem I'd do an oil and filter change asap then check the gear leaver aliment as that can also attect gear selection.
you don't say what year gsx1400 it is as some pre 2005 models had gear box problems and that shows as a fault going from 1st to 2nd .
only other thing to check is the clutch slave cylinder next to the front sprocket as they are prone to sticking that alsi affects gear selection.

Welcome.... good advice from Seth! Get the same issue with 'old' oil...gear change become a lot smoother after an oil change. Also check your idle speed... above 1100 rpm causes similar effect when engaging 1st.
idle speed should be set at 1100rpm not any lower or more than 100rpm higher.
Thanks guy's,
The previous owner reckons its a 2009 model. I thought Suzuki stopped making them in 2008. I did a VIN check and it is right.
Thanks for the help. I'm happy that I have joined. I'll check it out tomorrow.
Croeso - Welcome :smile2:
the very last new k8 (a k7) was sold in scotland in 2009 so could be that new .
all gsx1400 from the k5 on are the same except for the paint work.
never heard of a post later k5 on bike having the gearbox problem.
a full service oil , oilfilter and airfilter should bring it back right also check free play in throttle cables too.
you can download a full suzuki workshop manual in the downloads section of this forum if you need it .

Bienvenue!
Welcome :hat:
1. Change oil and filter
2. Check clutch for drag
3. Check gear lever assembly for play at the angle joints and bearing
4. Check play of gear shift shaft
Ideally there should be no play found in 3 and 4. The more there is the harsher the gear shifts will be.
Gidday mate & welcome to he forum. A certain amount of 'clunkiness' is normal with the 14.
Welcome
Change oil and filter first. Quite a bit of stuff on this subject on here. Keep reading.
