Title: K&N /Pipercross
Post by: lil4399 on Friday, 05 January 2018, 10:07 PM
Just preparing to sort a major service on the New beastie, thinking about air filter standard v K&N.

Anyone using one and if so, did you notice any difference or adjustments needed.

Cheers

no difference
older suzuki filters flowed slightly more air than anything else on dyno testing.
but the newer ones are just the same as any other.
k&n at least can be cleaned and re used but replacements are so cheap it might not be worth it even then.

im sure there are threads on all of this in the forum so maybe worth a search and see.

As Seth says.

Standard ones give slightly better airflow (proven on dyno)
Only advantage of K&N is that they are cleanable, so if you are intending to do high mileage, or live in very dusty area (so filter clogs up quicker)  will pay for themselves over a longer period of use. Else in all honesty the standard ones are better value and cheap enough if you only do low mileage.

How often should the air filter be replaced in normal none dusty conditions?

Handbook suggests every 15K miles

Then there is filtering ability. Stock filters better than K&N.

I did search the forums but did not find anything specific.

I am not looking at doing high mileage, and it's only on 45,000 km so standard filter it is.

Cheers guys.
