Title: Help to start off
Post by: Gixerkid on Sunday, 31 December 2017, 08:07 PM
Hi there, picked up my k3 yesterday and now need to readjust all suspension settings as Im only 70 kg compared to the previous owner who was a much bigger guy and used to ride fully loaded....
I have read many a previous post and have gathered that tacking to a suspension specialist is the best bet but where I live the nearest is 2 hours away and at the moment I need a ballpark setting to go from.
Any of you guys on here a lightweight like myself or near that weight
Cheers

have a look through the downloads section of the forum as the mcn suspension settings are there and a good starting point for you.
if the fronts to hard then straight forward to adjust but be weary of the rears as if not been adjusted the adjusters can leak but not the shocks themselves .
also in the downloads if a full factory workshop maunel if you want to go to original spec/settings.
have a good look through the forum the search box is your friend .
seth

Start with the stock settings (shown top right in the MCN settings page http://gsx1400owners.org/forum_test/index.php?topic=213.0 ) and take from there Mark, stock settings relate to the "lighter" rider. As with most suspension, its a case of adjust one setting and try it, until you get to how you like it.

I'm just over 13st and found leaving the front forks as standard, with 3.5 rings on the rear suspension worked best for me.

If you don't have or need a handbook so you can check what Zooki says about settings you can download one from here - http://gsx1400owners.org/forum_test/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=11

It's my normal comment to anyone with a bike that's new to them but I'd take the time to change the fork oil before setting it up. No one seems to do it & then thinks their new bike rides so much better, funny how their old one would too if it'd been done.

I think I'm running the MCN settings plus a ring or two of pre-load on mine, it's been years since I adjusted it. That does me for solo & touring. I'm 14 1/2 stone for reference (I refuse to speak french & use kg).

Already noticed that the rear compression adjuster on one side is stuck on number 4,the other sides ok,so will have to leave this on number 4 I take it.
Showing 2 rings on the rear at the moment

Set both to 4 for the moment Mark. You might find this article useful though
