Title: Spark Plugs
Post by: Speedy1959 on Saturday, 25 November 2017, 11:13 PM
Hi All
Can I confirm with you that the standard NGK plugs are CR8EK
I ask because if I google that plug its some weird twin electrode job..
Is that the correct plug?

Thank you all for your fast response and confirmation..
I bought my bike with 35k miles and I cannot say when they were last changed.
I shall have the tank partly removed tomorrow to complete the fitting of the heated grips so I thought I may as well do the plugs whilst I am in there..
Apparently there is a 3 hour window tomorrow afternoon when it isnt peeing down so I shall do it then.

Oh for the luxury of a garage..

Also a good idea to have the air filter out and blow it clean whilst the tank is off. And maybe check the air filter drain that runs down the between the swing arm.

Just be careful refitting the tank that you don't "nip" the over flow pipe that runs down the offside under the rh sidepanel - mayeb check the run before you remove the tank if you are not sure of routing.

Where do you all get your plugs from? I have heard of 'fakes' on eBay. I'll be honest. I live far from bike shops in a village. Ebay has been my preferred choice for years now. Any opinions...?

There are plenty of ebay sellers offering genuine plugs with a guarantee.  I get mine from ebay and have never had a problem.

my last set of NGK, iridiums. Can of Worms.  Been good for last 30th ks. I get best discount possible at local shop, we buy thousands off them. Their best price was $112. I E Bayed someone in London, sent to my house, all up $48. Not sure if real or phony, work perfectly. We do get robbed in Oz.

From my experience iridiums don't seam any better  :whistling: (If you have them leave them in)
The only problem with them for me has been if the bike sits for and length of time the iridium plug seam to fail. :stir:
They seam ok if the bike is used all the time .

I've had several sets off eBay. Never a problem. Only I recently read of numerous fake ones being sold. That's why I thought I'd go to a proper real shop on the high street.

I tried Halfords but they tell me that they stock the Cr8e NOT  Cr8ek  as the manual says.
Which ones did you get from them?

Halfords only stock the iridium plugs for some reason.

I tried iridium plugs and noticed no difference in performance with them
The only thing was they stopped working while sitting over the winter standard plugs I've never had a problem with them lasting for several years .
My local Halfords does standard plugs .Also most car spare shops will stock the standard plugs too.

Iridium plugs will last longer in theory, with accurately controlled fuel injection, but they are more sensible to poor air/ fuel mixture, rich or lean.
And injection system of 14 is very rough, so I don't see any point to use expensive iridium plugs in 14.

A bit like oil and tyres the spark plug story. I have ngk iridium in mine, only 40th ks, never been a problem. No idea if better or worse but they werent expensive, $12 each. My wife car, nearly 100th ks, manifold off to replace rear 3. They are iridium, front 3 are normal, easy to change. Rear never missed a beat, front changed only once. New rear are $36, front are $18. No complaints from me. My only say in this is that ngk are the best. IMO.
